DBJ Singapore (the "Company”) is a subsidiary of Development Bank of Japan Inc. (“DBJ”), a financial institution wholly-owned by the Japanese government, which provides a wide range of financial products and services including senior debt, mezzanine, equity as well as financial advisory services.
As DBJ’s gateway to Asia Pacific region, the Company is responsible for sourcing deals through developing and enhancing the local business network, and supporting execution of relevant deals that are in line with the DBJ’s APAC strategy. We are currently looking for a suitable candidate for a GM position in our Corporate Finance & Strategic Investment (APAC) Department.
Job Description
- Lead DBJ’s APAC expansion, ensuring alignment with regional nuances and DBJ's mission, while establishing and enhancing relationships with senior leadership among clients and partners.
- Oversee and elevate the team’s performance through effective management of all stages (research, origination, execution, and monitoring) of financing and investment deals across multiple sectors, in close partnership with Japan HQ. Actively participate in deal negotiations as required.
- Provide comprehensive reporting to the Company’s board and Japan HQ, encompassing annual business strategy and budgeting, along with regular monthly/weekly updates and management of daily operational matters.
- Coordinate and negotiate not only with private companies but also with the government, as we are a government-affiliated financial institution.
- Participate actively in the Company's strategic planning and management discussions alongside the CEO and other General Managers, shaping the organization's direction and policies.
Job Requirements
- At least 10 years of experience working in Corporate Finance and Investment industry, of which 5+ years of management experience.
- In the last 5 years, extensive deal experience with hands-on expertise in loan financing to larger industry leading enterprises & its relationship management, private equity investments, mezzanine investments and investment into funds throughout the life cycle of deals.
- At least 10 years of experience working for a government-related financial institution or investment firm with in-depth experience in leading a team, understanding of reporting structure to a head office owned by government and regulators and communication with other government institutions.
- At least 5 years of experience working in relation to Japanese financial regulations and laws in order to ensure that the Singapore office complies with the same compliance standard of corporate finance and investment criteria as our Japan head office that is regulated by Ministry of Finance in Japan.
- Experience working for or negotiating with government agencies as clients.
- Advanced communication, presentation and stakeholders management skills in both in English and Japanese (JPLT N1 or equivalent) are required as this position is to communicate, read and understand as well as respond and present in these two languages to our partners and clients in Southeast Asia and Japan.
- Comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of global banking and financial market.
