About the Role
As a key member of BHP’s International Relations and Portfolio Growth (IRPG) team, this role is accountable for helping deliver IRPG’s work in international government engagement, geopolitical analysis and the provision of Corporate Affairs support to BHP growth teams.
The role will focus on:
- Providing advice on geopolitical and global policy issues and assisting in relevant monitoring.
- Helping BHP position itself in response to or anticipation to change geopolitical landscapes and global policies.
- Supporting BHP engagement with Government stakeholders, diplomats, NGOs, Think Tanks, and stakeholders in jurisdictions of interest to BHP.
- Overseeing IRPG’s involvement in, and contributions to BHP’s Risk Framework.
- Supporting strategic projects including geopolitical analyses, growth projects and other studies.
- Providing support to BHP senior leadership including specialist political risk advice and developing and executing stakeholder engagement strategies.
This is a global role based in BHP’s Singapore office, and reports to the Head of International Relations and Portfolio Growth in Toronto.
About You
To be successful in this role, the candidate is likely to have a degree in politics, international relations, public policy, economics or other suitable qualification. In addition, we are seeking specific attributes such as:
- Functional expertise in geopolitical/policy analysis and advice.
- Experience in government, or working closely with government, particularly in areas of international relations and public policy.
- Very strong external engagement and advocacy skills including good experience in engagement on international relations and public policy issues.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including an ability to draft sound and logical policy analysis particularly for senior internal audiences.
- Strong analytical skills with an ability to undertake critical thinking and analysis on complex issues.
- Commercial acumen and a business focused approach in considering issues and implications of public policy.
- Ability to work in a matrixed organisation, including navigating cross-functional relationships to build internal networks to successfully and efficiently deliver outcomes.
- Ability to work with ambiguity and complexity and adapt in line with changing business priorities.
- Team player, with an enthusiasm and interest in contributing to team culture.
