Overall, Purpose of the role
The Finance Director is responsible for the financial management of Singapore business and leads a team of around 15 people based in Singapore across Finance, Commercial and, D&T.
The Finance Director is expected to be a proactive, collaborative and insightful partner to the business and see their role as being integral to helping drive financial and operational performance. This requires the Finance Director to be engaging widely across the business to understand internal and external customer needs, and providing the strategic and commercial insight and information systems that will enable business success.
Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities
- Developing business insights:Actively consult the business to understand the needs of operators and clients and analyze key business drivers to develop and make available commercial insight that will help empower and challenge the business to deliver better performance.
- Developing growth ideas: Actively contribute to the strategic growth agenda of the overall portfolio as well as individual business units, identifying and assessing market opportunities, and reviewing the alignment between strategy and the business model.
- Relentlessly driving efficiency:Rolling up the sleeves to ensure the business’s profit and cash is continuously enhanced by tight financial controls, cash flow and working capital management, and the streamlining of business processes. This includes tight and rigorous review of contract performance and forecasts.
- Supporting client retention: Engage with key stakeholders to garner feedback and strategic insights from which to advise and position the business and operations teams to maximise client retention. This will involve directly engaging with key customers and working with operations on retention.
Role Responsibilities in Details

1) Job Specific Responsibilities
- Provide support to MD in all financial matters, while driving country strategy and growth plans.
- Be across all commercial and client matters in relation to the country, understanding the intricacies of key contracts.
- Proactively highlight and manage risks and opportunities associated with the country, ensuring these are given the appropriate attention by the business.
- Thorough attention to detail and being highly analytical, alerting MD of key issues on a timely basis and maintaining regular communication.
- Responsible for ensuring accurate and timely group reporting, including coordinating of Budgets, Forecasts and 3-year plan process for the business.
- Oversight and governance of MAP 4 and 5 controls supporting MD to ensure adherence to process and policies by team members.
- Drive efficiencies working across finance /procurement/ commercial teams through system and process improvements.
- Cultivate productive working relationships at all levels, which support the nurturing of internal and external relationships, facilitates cooperation trust and respect, values differences and diversity and guides, mentors and focuses on the development of people as part of the Leadership Team. Be the Operations managers ‘Go To’ advisor for Finance matters, as well as challenge them when needed.
2) Strategic Responsibilities
- Partner MD with the business strategic planning which includes the annual 3-year planning process.
- In collaboration with the MD challenge the market landscape, and business models adopted in the business, identifying opportunities for growth and efficiency.
3) Commercial Responsibilities
- Support Procurement and Operations teams on delivery of high performing management accounts, budgets, forecasts and 3-year plans for the country.
- Ensure that the month end process efficiency is maintained, and that rest of leadership team collaborates with the rest of the Finance team to complete on time.
- Proactively manage the working capital components and Audit process for the business
- Oversee the production of value-add analysis of operational and financial KPIs as well as provision of insights to key stakeholders.
- Support new business process and review of models for group approval while ensuring adherence to the group approval manual.
- Provide insightful, timely, accurate and meaningful analysis to the business.
- Support M&A activity as needed.
- Ensure the ongoing maintenance of the Group’s Key Financial Controls (KFCs) and work with other control owners, with support from the Managing Director, to ensure that the Group’s KFCs are complied with
4) People Responsibilities
- Champion a Safety culture, whereby ownership of the wellbeing and safety of our employees is adopted by all.
- Provide leadership, management, talent acquisition, succession planning and talent development within the function team. This includes coaching high potential talent to build and implement development plans and conducting performance appraisal discussions.

- Give direction and leadership towards the achievement of the team’s strategy and its annual goals and objectives.
- Promote, support, and engage with the training and development of other function team members when required.
- Build and leverage regional and global relationships within the Compass Group to accelerate sharing of best practices which drive performance improvement.
D&T Responsibilities
- Oversee the D&T team, including IT Infrastructure & Security and Compass’ digitization initiatives
- Manage all D&T Budgets to ensure that are in line with Group D&T guidelines
- Ensure that Singapore’s D&T policies are in line with Group policies
- Understand business needs, together with other relevant functions, identify & prioritise digitization initiatives and project manage such roll-outs
Experience, Qualifications and Competency Requirements

Qualifications & Experience
- ACCA / CPA Qualified
- Experience in a Financial leadership (or similar) role within a developing but complex business
- Experience in operating in a competitive environment, where a business is under stress from market and/or operational circumstances
- Exposure to services or consumer facing businesses, ideally with a dispersed operating model. i.e., site based.
