Objectives
The Local Business Manager for ASEANZ is responsible to lead the Performance Materials business teams in ASEAN & ANZ to develop, enable & implement robust activities aimed at growth, to increase profitable contribution to all 3 Strategic Business Units in Performance Materials division. This role will also oversee the Performance Materials operation sites in Thailand (Bangpoo) and Malaysia (Toray BASF PBT Resin Malaysia and Pasir Gudang)
Responsibilities
Business Management
· Leads and manages the profitable growth of ASEAN & ANZ Business Management for all 3 Regional Business Managements.
· Develops sales & marketing strategies in alignment with Performance Materials division for ASEAN & ANZ.
· Ensure mid-term and long-term targets are achieved and required resources are in place to achieve volume and profitability targets.
· Prepares budget and oversees expenditures to ensure cost effectiveness of all Sales / Technical Development activities. Manages overall business unit’s cost in line with budget.
· Provides leadership to the development and implementation of segments, application, product, and customer strategies to achieve sales targets.
· Steers resources in accordance with strategies and technical development plans and in line with customer management (segmentation, business rules)
· Guides team to explore, identify and develop new businesses.
· Establishes relationships with key management stakeholders of strategic customers.
· Conducts and develops the business in line with regional and local Code of Conduct and maintain full compliance in the team.
· Represents the company in trade and professional organizations to stay in touch with market trends.
· Responsible for approval of first level price exceptions outside of price list limits
· Sales and Key Account Management - Optimize sales turnover and improve profitability, steering country team, assessing new business opportunities and building business relationships with global/regional/local key accounts in ASEAN & ANZ
· Sales and Distribution Channel Management - Monitor and recommend/decide the cost effectiveness and efficiency of the local sales and distribution channels to optimize the profit margins and market shares.
· Marketing Communication - Implementation of marketing communication programs of countries with the regional marketing communication team
· Market Intelligence – Collaborates with countries and Regional Business Units on market intelligence analysis results and competitive information on market trends, customer requirements to develop and review global/regional/local strategies, policies and business plans.
· Pricing Management - Implement and propose modifications of pricing strategies for countries with the Regional Business Units in order to balance the global/regional/local business strategies and ensure the profitability of Performance Materials business in ASEAN & ANZ
Credit Management
· Leads and guides team to ensure credit management is aligned to company’s guideline and risk management.
People Management
· Provides leadership to the Sales/Technical Sales Organization (incl. Key Account Management) and leads team development.
· Ensures appropriate resources are in place with proper succession planning.
· Plan and control the function structure and manpower requirements, headcount, and budget, establish development measures and appraise the performance of the team.
· Direct and prioritize the workload of team members.
· Train (via on the- job, in-house and/or external training programs) and coach the direct reports (who are mostly experienced professionals/ managers) and develop the succession planning in order to improve the working efficiency, quality and professional skills of the team members.
· Compile and review work records to determine department productivity, quality of output and cost of service.
· Develop methods to continually improve results.
Requirements
· Master’s / bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering/Plastics/Business Administration
· At least 15 years of commercial experience preferably in the plastics and chemical industries.
· At least 7 years of leadership experience, including business driving, strategic steering, and people leadership.
· Hands-on management experience in an organization with a high level of complexity and integration, and able to work independently.
· Experience in managing a highly diverse team and cross-cultural environment.
· Familiarity with BASF's internal network is required.
· In-depth knowledge of Engineering Plastics/PU Systems, technical know-how and applications.
