Key Responsibilities of Occupational Therapist:
1. Registration / Parent Interview:
- Conduct initial parent interviews to gather developmental history and concerns about the child.
- Engage in dialogue with parents to gather additional relevant information.
2. Child Assessment:
- Utilize standardized assessment tools and clinical observations to evaluate the child's strengths and weaknesses.
- Assess Visual Motor Integration, Visual Perception Skills, Fine and Gross Motor Skills, Sensory Processing,
- Motor Planning, Motor Coordination, and Handwriting Skills.
- Summarize assessment findings and establish baseline data for intervention goals.
3. Goal Setting:
- Develop individualized intervention plans based on assessment results.
- Create tailored therapy goals for each child, emphasizing play-based approaches for younger children.
- Incorporate specific exercises targeted for focus and areas relevant to school and home environments.
- Clearly communicate therapy goals and strategies to parents.
- Provide weekly homework assignments and updates to parents on the child's progress.
4. Therapy Sessions:
- Conduct one-on-one therapy sessions with pediatric clients.
- Implement customized exercises and activities in the sensory integrated gym.
- Use a variety of therapy approaches to maximize functional outcomes and accelerate developmental progress.
- Foster a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for therapy sessions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy.
- Full AHPC Registration
- Experience working with pediatric populations, preferably in a clinical or school setting.
- Knowledge of sensory integration techniques and play-based therapy approaches.
- Strong assessment and goal-setting skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in engaging with children and their parents.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with other professionals, including early interventionists and educators.
Preferred Skills:
- Certification in Sensory Integration or related fields.
- Experience with diverse pediatric populations and developmental disorders.
- Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive equipment.
- Continued education and training in pediatric occupational therapy practices.
From a salary perspective, the hourly rate for this role is up to $80 per hour dependent on your previous occupational therapist experience. You could earn up to your expected salary without committing a full time position (42 hours weekly).
