Purpose of the Role:

You will be a part of the Asian Investment Banking Division (“AIBD”) that sits in the front line, responsible for the promotion of Corporate & Investment Banking (“CIB”) products and services in the Asia and Oceania region, covering both Global Corporates and Japanese Corporates. The Portfolio Management department is a key function in AIBD that takes over the management of structured loans originated in AIBD, including real estate, oil and gas, infrastructure, renewables, energy, utilities and shipping, to monitor and enhance the credit quality of the portfolio through direct engagement of external and internal stakeholders and through credit risk assessment and support.

As leader of the team reporting directly to the Head of Department, your role will entail the management and supervision of a team responsible for managing a portfolio of structured finance assets across Asia originated in Project Finance (power, natural resources, and infrastructure) (“PF”) and Real Estate Finance (“RE”). You will lead, supervise and provide senior guidance to Team Leads and relevant team members responsible for portfolio management in the PF and the RE sub-units within the department.

Job Responsibilities:

You will play an important role in our team by taking on responsibilities that include (but are not limited to):

Client Management and Strategy

  • Manage and lead the PF and RE sub-units in the implementation of solutions through stakeholder negotiations with clients, bank syndicates, external specialist advisors and internal stakeholders including negotiation of waiver terms and amendment documents.
  • Co-work with Origination team in the arrangement of refinancing transaction, such as deal execution, negotiation, documentation review.
  • Maintain good client relationships through regular direct contact with clients to represent the business objectives to resolve issues while managing customer needs.

Portfolio Management, Credit Risk Analysis and Reporting

  • Manage and lead the PF and RE sub-units to actively manage the overall risk profile of its assets including ongoing monitoring of client and project conditions, proactive risk identification, recommend changes where necessary to mitigate risks, and manage relevant reporting to internal stakeholders.
  • Lead the PF and RE sub-units in the assessment and execution of secondary loan sales in collaboration with the MUFG Distribution Team
  • Lead the PF and RE sub-units in the oversight and negotiation of waiver terms and amendment documents.
  • Lead the PF and RE sub-units in the preparation, management and oversight of the approval process for borrowing ratings, of credit applications and reviews.
  • Lead the PF and RE sub-units in the preparation and oversight of Management, Head Office and Regulatory Reporting.
  • Lead the management and oversight of the approval process for internal operational matters of the team including accounting-related reporting, internal audit and credit examinations, internal operational/administrative/system authorisations, reporting for asset evaluation, covenant monitoring and other valuations, etc.

Leadership, Team-level Initiatives and Staff Management

  • Advise the Head of Department in and spearhead various strategic initiatives from overall team perspective and/or specific projects, including enhancements to the risk management, credit monitoring process to improve business efficiency, optimising exposure and provisioning, budgeting control.
  • Advise the Head of Department in overall management of the portfolio and sector coverage.
  • Responsible for and manage the PF and RE sub-units in the day-to-day management of the team in ensuring alignment with internal credit policies and operational guidelines.
  • Develop, execute and lead the PF and RE sub-units in the implementation of business strategy to enhance operational efficiency of the team.
  • Act within limits of delegation authority
  • Represent the team in divisional and regional meetings on behalf of the Head of Department when needed.
  • Responsible for staff management including performance review, recruitment, mentoring, motivating, addressing professional development of staff and resource allocation matters for the PF and RE sub-units.

Job Requirements

  • People Manager with experience leading a regional team in banking
  • Minimum 18 years experience in origination, loan documentation, credit and risk analysis, recommendation to senior management and credit committee across multi disciplines for Project Finance and Real Estate
  • Experience in credit risk or financial analysis, critical and data analysis, impact sensitivity studies, cashflow or financial modelling, options analysis, valuation, financing documentation and legal considerations.
  • Experience in specialised Shipping transactions
  • Degree qualified in Finance, Banking Accounting, or related discipline
  • Have experience to manage operational and administration function
  • Strong understanding of banking products
  • Excellent technical skills, a strategic mindset and sound business acumen with proven track record.
  • Excellent organisation skills and attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication and writing skills.
  • Strong management skills, Including collaborating with other departments and other regions.
  • Proactive, resourceful and a good team player, with ability to build rapport with internal and external parties.
