Overview
Microsoft is looking for a Senior Technical Specialist to work with our Operator Partners in Asia to build solutions that encompass the best of Microsoft and telecom technologies, both for our packet core and voice core solutions. The Senior Technical Specialist is a highly technical and a strategic role; accountable for working with Microsoft’s Partners to help develop complex end-to-end Microsoft and telecom solutions, and to accelerate and expand technical enablement execution across our Telecom Partner ecosystem.
In this role, you will own technical enablement strategy and engagement; working directly with Microsoft’s Telecom Partners to identify, qualify, architect, and help develop telco grade solutions. The ideal candidate will have experience in customer/partner facing roles and have demonstrated success leading technical and economic value discussions with senior executives to drive key decisions and implementation. Candidates need to possess the ability to impact and influence customers/partners with a high degree of autonomy, energy, enthusiasm, flexibility, and the drive to help develop solutions that create real and measurable business results.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical assistance to the Sales Director assigned on a specific targeted region
- Articulate and present the Microsoft solution highlighting its benefits whilst addressing the specific customer requirements
- Participate in conferences, shows and exhibitions when appropriate and requested
- Identify and opportunistically pursue additional business development opportunities within the customers organization and ensure these opportunities are effectively covered and followed by the sales team
- Ensure that the relationship between Microsoft and the customer remains positive and strong with ongoing meetings, calls and electronic communication
- Conduct ongoing technical workshops to various organizations within the customer to uncover future opportunities and to strengthen the business relationship
- Assist in the development of product and applications slides for potential customers
- Answer and co-ordinate responses to RFI/ RFQ/ RFP from a technical perspective for the customers
- Proactively scope the technical solution required to address the customer’s requirements and recommend optimum solutions, ensuring appropriate support for the proposed architecture
- Follow and share market technological needs and evolution with Product Line Managers.
- Create high level design (HLD) and statement of works (SoW) for handover of projects to professional services for delivery
- Monitor R&D/ customer support for technical solutions proposed throughout the sales process and alert the sales and account teams to potential risks of deal closure
- Provide secondary and tertiary support for other technical individuals/ teams at Microsoft
- Build relationships with the wider Microsoft, communicating the benefits of our technology to their business and supporting their bids where they include our technology
- Agree task priorities with stakeholders and track tasks to ensure on time delivery
Qualifications
A thorough understanding of voice and data networking technologies is essential.
- 7 (or more) years’ experience in Telecoms Systems Engineering
- Voice solutions and products:
- NGN, IMS, and VoLTE/VoNR architectures and protocols
- Business Services and Unified Communications
- Session Border Controllers and their role in NGN / IMS architectures
- Desirable but not essential:
- SS7 / Intelligent Networks (INAP/CAMEL/WIN) architecture and protocols
- Media Gateway and Media Server protocol interfaces in the NGN and IMS
- Packet Core solutions and products:
- Thorough understanding of 3GPP Packet Core architectures and protocols (2G/3G/4G/5G NSA/SA), including technology approach and strategies for packet core evolution
- Virtual Probes and Analytics
- Mobile Gi-LAN services (DPI, Carrier-grade NAT, Content Filtering)
- Policy and Charging Control, PCEF, Mediation, OSS/BSS
- Background in designing, scoping Telco Infrastructure and Platform products such as Azure, Red Hat OpenStack, VMWare ESXI, and KVM
- Understanding of cloud computing, including public, private and edge compute
- Understanding AI/ML/LLM/RAG/GPT concepts and application to telco workloads
- Thorough understanding of virtualization, cloud native concepts and the application of Hybrid cloud (public/private) into the telecom environment
- Web 2.0 technologies (XML, SOAP, REST, CLI, LUA, scripting etc).
- IP Networking Protocols such as TCP, DHCP, ARP, SMTP, SNMP, DNS, HTTP, FTP, TLS, IPsec etc.
- Network Management: SNMP & network management platforms such as OpenView, etc.
- Regulatory and national requirements with regard to Routing, Legal Intercept, Recording, Emergency Communications, Local Number Portability

- Solid communication skills
- Ability to work well in a team, and independently
- Ability to prioritise and track deliverables
- Solution selling experience into various Tier 1 to Tier 3 accounts in Asia
- The ability to interact with all levels of customer management
- A degree or equivalent qualification
- Ability to travel (moderate to extensive)
- Ability to coordinate multiple and simultaneous projects effectively
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies
