Job Scope:
As the Urban Farm Operations Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of farm operations, ensuring the efficient and sustainable production of high-quality crops. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Farm Management: Lead day-to-day operations of the urban farm, including crop cultivation, irrigation, nutrient management, and pest control.
- Team Leadership: Manage and motivate a team of farm technicians and support staff, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation.
- Technology Integration: Utilize and optimize the farm's mechanized hydroponics system, leveraging technology to maximize crop yield, quality, and efficiency.
- Quality Assurance: Implement and maintain rigorous quality control measures to ensure that all produce meets the highest standards of freshness, flavor, and safety.
- Supply Chain Management: Coordinate with procurement, logistics, and distribution teams to ensure timely delivery of produce to local markets and customers.
- Community Engagement: Engage with local residents, schools, and community groups to raise awareness about urban agriculture and promote the benefits of locally grown food.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization, innovation, and expansion, driving continuous improvement in farm operations and performance.
- Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and safety standards, maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for all staff.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, or related or relevant fields such as mechanical engineering. Diplomas with a related field will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Preferably minimum 2-5 years of experience in farm management, with a proven track record of success in hydroponics or controlled environment agriculture.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve ambitious goals.
- Deep knowledge of hydroponic farming techniques, crop physiology, and plant nutrition.
- Familiarity with agricultural technology and automation systems.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Passion for sustainability, environmental stewardship, and local food systems.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Flexibility to work occasional weekends or evenings as needed.
