The Observability team is in charge of developing solutions that focus on application developers and engineers that run infrastructure and services supporting these applications. Elasticsearch is an efficient datastore for logs, metrics, and application traces, supporting the three pillars of observability. The Observability team builds and maintains solutions that make getting insights from this data turnkey and efficient, such as our APM, Infrastructure Monitoring, Logs, and Uptime solutions. When developing these solutions, we think about the problem end-to-end: how do we automatically collect data from common data sources, how do we store it efficiently in Elasticsearch, how do we present this information to the user, what actions do we take on the insights from the data? All of these aspects are important in bringing a turnkey solution to the market.
Join our team as a Principal OpenTelemetry Engineer and take a pivotal role in advocating, steering, and coordinating Elastic's community activities within OpenTelemetry. This position is central to Elastic’s dedication to the success of OpenTelemetry. As a permanent member of the OpenTelemetry community, you will collaborate on and contribute to groundbreaking themes, helping shape the future of OpenTelemetry. Your role will involve not only technical leadership of community activities but also active engagement in public discourse. You will represent Elastic at conferences, author blog posts, and spread the word about our innovative contributions to the OpenTelemetry ecosystem.
What you will be working on
- You will be technically overseeing and driving Elastic’s participation in various OpenTelemetry projects
- You will actively participate and contribute to core and innovative OpenTelemetry topics
- Participate in selected OpenTelemetry SIGs
- Contribute valuable core features to the OpenTelemetry ecosystem
- Collaborate on and kick-off novel OpenTelemetry projects
- Collaborate with different Elastic teams on OpenTelemetry topics from data collection through processing to the visualization
- You will be working on highly relevant Elastic projects and play a key role in making OpenTelemetry an integral part of Elastic’s collection, processing and ingestion of data
- You will collaborate on POCs, technical concepts and contribute to Elastic components to smoothly integrate with the OpenTelemetry ecosystem
- You will be hands-on with OpenTelemetry use cases and help different Elastic teams providing a great user experience for these use cases
- You will be part of and play a guiding role within a cross-functional and multidisciplinary team of engineers sharing, discussing and collaborating on exciting OpenTelemetry topics on a daily basis
- You will represent Elastic at conferences, write blog posts, and continuously spread the word about your and your team’s OpenTelemetry activities and contributions
What you will bring along
- You have a strong technical background in Observability
- You worked on and maintained widely used open-source projects in the past
- You are familiar with OpenTelemetry
- You are passionate about open source and community-driven projects
- Profound professional experience in at least one of the languages: Go, Java
- Demonstrated proficiency and genuine enthusiasm for independently driving and overseeing technical projects
- You are used to and excited about continuously spreading the word about the work of your team through social media, blogs posts and conference talks
