The Shelter Manager is responsible for the overall day-to-day management of SPCA’s shelter. This includes ensuring the welfare of all animals and safety of all staff and volunteers working at the shelter. The Shelter Manager will maintain a safe and healthy environment for all and develop a structured process to ensure high welfare standards.

In the event of limited resources, the Shelter Manager may from time to time be required to step in to perform the duties of any staff he or she oversees.

The responsibilities include and are not limited to:

  • Ensuring smooth operations and day-to-day running of shelter operations including maintaining optimal animal hygiene and welfare standards.
  • Overseeing and strengthening all internal processes in managing feeding, cleaning, transfer, dispensing of medication and enrichment for animals.
  • Conducting regular checks and review any lapses in service, welfare, or safety standards at the shelter.
  • Escalating any incidents (including but not limited to work injuries, safety breaches, disease outbreaks) to Deputy Director (Shelter).
  • Ensuring optimal deployment of shelter staff to respective work areas.
  • Inducting and coaching new shelter staff.
  • Developing and reviewing all SOPs and safety protocols related to shelter work in consultation with Operations Director and Deputy Director (Shelter).
  • Conducting regular training to ensure compliance to protocols.
  • Ensuring maintenance of SPCA’s facilities and façade.
  • Working with internal and external stakeholders to ensure all facilities maintenance and repair works are carried out in a timely and safe manner.
  • Leading and conducting training sessions for stakeholders (including but not limited to AVS Contractors, trappers, partners).
  • Developing and overseeing the practical training sessions for shelter volunteers.

Others

  • Providing support for ad-hoc events and SPCA-led projects.

Requirements

  • Education: Minimum of diploma, fluent in English
  • At least 3- 5 years of animal handling experience is preferred
  • Passionate about animal welfare
  • Strong and dynamic leader with exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Meticulous and detail-oriented
