DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY TECHNICIAN

Dulwich College (Singapore) is recruiting an Design and Technology Technician to support the DT Department in managing resources and preparing for lessons to facilitate excellence in teaching and learning at all times starting in August 2024. This is a term-time role.

  • Prepare and set up materials and equipment for practical lessons.
  • Communicate with suppliers and the College’s Purchasing Department with regards to ordering of supplies and resources.
  • To perform administrative duties associated with procuring, ordering, and purchasing of materials and equipment.
  • Responsible for regular stocktakes of materials to ensure resource levels are maintained appropriately and records kept.
  • Organise the storing of stock, resources, materials and equipment and ensure this is kept tidy and ordered.
  • Along with colleagues in the department, undertake health and safety checks for all machinery and equipment, of all DT rooms.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot machinery, including undertaking routine repairs, to ensure it is kept in good working order.
  • Maintain workshop classrooms, preparation room, tool cupboards and materials in a tidy organised manner.
  • To ensure risk assessments are up to date according to health and safety guidelines.
  • Liase with Curriculum Lead of DT to understand the project requirements for the year, to plan ahead and ensure resources are prepared.
  • Liaise with the DT Teachers each day/week to ensure set up of classroom practical activities and materials are prepared.
  • Advise the Director of Business Administration on Health and Safety issues and write Risk Assessments;
  • To have good working knowledge of a range of CAD programs. Subject but not limited to; Adobe Illustrator, Procreate, and Autodesk Fusion 360.
  • To have experience working with CAM machinery. Subject but not limited to, laser cutters, 3D printing, CNC routing and waterjet-cutter.
  • To have practical knowledge of using heaving machinery e.g. Table saws, Lathes, welding equipment, pillar drills, bandsaws and grinders.
  • To provide practical support to students during lessons as required.
  • Assist with displays of student work inside and outside of the classroom including exhibition displays.
  • To be physically fit to be able to perform duties above, including moving and managing large sheet materials and practical projects.
  • All other duties commensurate with the post.

(H&S training, and some guidance will be provided, but the expectation to use all equipment is mandatory.)


The successful candidate will have:

  • A relevant technical qualification (Diploma or Higher Certificate);
  • A minimum of one year’s relevant experience, ideally gained in a school environment;
  • An understanding of, and interest in DT equipment and resources, including their use and maintenance;
  • Experience of supporting student learning would be an advantage;
  • Experience of designs or engineering in a commercial or educational setting;
  • Experience of working with young people;
  • Good communication skills and the ability to develop positive relationships across the College;
  • Experience of ordering and managing the stock control of consumable items;
  • An adaptable and flexible attitude, and a willingness to use initiative;
  • Be physically able to work in a busy environment.
