Assistant Vice President - Risk Control Specialist, Energy (APAC Region)
Responsibilities include:
- Partnering with the Energy Team Leader in Singapore for Underwriting, Claims, and Management/Executive teams to support and strengthen corporate business goals, including retention, new business growth, reducing loss exposure, and overall regional profitability;
- Partening with the broader Sompo Risk Control team, sharing capacities, resources, and expertise;
- Ensuring Risk Control surveys and service activities are completed on time, are appropriate for the identified hazards/exposures, and are accurate;
- Undertaking risk control surveys for Energy Clients;
- Monitoring recommendations made by consultants and ensuring critical recommendations are addressed by Clients;
- Providing service quality reviews and risk desk reviews for Underwriters;
- Identifying areas of development for the team and providing coaching and/or training for the strengthening of technical, business, and professional acumen;
- Supporting and promoting corporate, departmental, and team goals, programs, and directives;
- Coordinating work on corporate projects, white papers, or marketing materials;
- Coordinating participation in marketing events and industry-specific events;Partnering with corporate business partners' Claims, Underwriting, Marketing, etc., to enhance the Sompo International brand within the marketplace;Ensuring account renewal activities between field staff and underwriting occur as required to achieve department objectives;
- Assisting senior leadership with budget development and strategic planning;
- Promoting Sompo International's expertise and brand within the marketplace by attending and participating in conferences and recognized industry organizations
- Maintaining a high level of industry awareness and expertise in applicable risk control subject matters.
- Creating client-facing reports and/or loss control surveys;
- Conducting loss control surveys at client locations to determine potential hazards and risk factors to be considered in underwriting/risk selection;
- Analyzing loss trends recognizes opportunities to provide risk control products and/or services that can help reduce losses.
- Attending client/broker meetings, lunches, dinners, and other social outings as applicable.
- Expanding existing relationships and new prospective Energy clients;
Desired Skills & Experience:
- A University degree or equivalent industry accreditation.
- 15+ years' experience in insurance (or industry) with supervisory experience in Risk Control.
- Solid understanding of sound Risk Control processes and techniques.
- Ability to effectively problem solve and find alternative equivalent solutions to complex technical, business, and interpersonal problems.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage conflict achieving successful outcomes and resolution.
- A proven track record of superior analytical, project management and planning skills.
- Demonstrated leadership skills that include the ability to; foster effective client/underwriting relationships, embrace and drive change, and influence others without having a direct reporting relationship.
- A self-starter who can initiate and complete a project with minimal supervision.
- Professional designations from the insurance or risk management industries and knowledge in renewables energy are a plus.
