Operational Risk & Compliance Lead

As an Operational Risk & Compliance Lead you'd be able to work on and solve many interesting challenges which we are facing, learn new ways of working, and help build delightful high quality products for our customers.

Job Description

This role is accountable for enabling Trust’s investment products across both managed and self-directed investments to meet their operational, risk, compliance and governance requirements.

The role sits within the business unit as a first-line owner and will collaborate with second-line risk and compliance owners to ensure processes, controls and policies are drafted, built and maintained on an ongoing basis with the ultimate goal of striking a balance between its delivery, operations and commercialisation and the Bank’s overall governance and strategic direction.

The Role Responsibility:

Product Management

  • Identification of risk, compliance and operations milestones and tracking these milestones to closure

Product Building

  • High-level risk assessment for products to help identify key risks and propose mitigation
  • Identify the business and functional processes that are necessary for operationalisation of the product and delivery of the business proposition
  • Implement key business processes and their sub processes (where relevant) and support the operationalisation of the product and delivery of the business proposition
  • Identify the key policies that the product needs to adopt and initiate steps to adapt them to product requirements (if applicable)
  • Ensure that processes and policies are aligned with the Group Enterprise Risk Management Framework and associated Risk Type Frameworks and resolve ongoing operational and risk issues
  • Embed Business Continuity Planning and Disaster Management processes
  • Train wider team on key risk management processes relevant to the business proposition
  • Support the product team in their preparations for go-live, including helping them to secure required internal and external approvals

Risk Management and Governance

  • Conduct a risk and control self assessment on business and functional processes, maintenance of associated risk registers and controls documentation
  • Drafting and delivering the product programme governance document to ensure product offering is aligned with the Group Enterprise Risk Management Framework
  • Monitor adherence to risk appetite and guide and assist teams to remediate risk appetite breaches. Speak out on emerging risks across the portfolio.
  • Regularly evaluate and identify business risks for new products and new businesses, regulatory and thematic risks, and drive the implementation of appropriate and calibrated controls to mitigate these risks across the product portfolio.
  • Identify processes that involve material risks and ensure appropriate and calibrated control mechanisms are implemented and approved.
  • Act as a key escalation point for the business for all risk related events and incidents and queries that arise at your assigned products.
  • Support your assigned products in reducing the impact of operational risks and minimising events, including losses, and ensuring material operational events are investigated to prevent recurrence.
  • Perform root cause review of material operational risk events for institutional learning and enhancement of controls.
  • Ensure that all required risk management information and metrics are captured at your assigned products (eg. Risk Appetite, Risk Profile, Control Completion, Material Risk Events etc).

Regulatory and Business Conduct

  • Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across the product portfolio.
  • Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters at your assigned product.

Role Specific Technical Competencies:

Skill & Target proficiency level

  • Knowledge of Financial and Non-Financial Risk Types and hands on experience in managing one or more financial or non-financial risks in a business or function - Advanced
  • Understanding of Operational Risk Practice and Assessment of Operational Risks in Business Processes - Advanced
  • Knowledge of Business Processes and controls in one or more business or functional areas - Advanced
  • Knowledge of Risk Appetite, Risk Metrics, Control Self Assessments etc - Advanced

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 10 years’ experience in risk management and programme management.
  • Business acumen and an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • 5-10 years of executive operational experience overseeing all risks and compliance aspects of a Capital Markets Services Licensee (CMSL) or equivalent
  • Clear understanding of the Bank’s Enterprise Risk Management Framework and Operational Risk Framework or equivalent experience gained in other organisations.
  • Demonstrated history of applying sound judgement with critical thinking skills and courage necessary to perform a control role and maintain effective working relationships
  • Hands-on and strategic thinker with excellent interpersonal and leadership skills with proven track record of leading and developing teams in a growing business
  • Ability to thrive and lead in a fast-paced, changing environment whilst retaining long-term focus
  • Strong prioritization capability and decision making skills
  • Strong analytical skills, detail-focused with the ability to interpret large volume of information
