Primary responsibilities
- Conduct concurrent in vivo pharmacology studies according to the experimental design.
- Work with a team on a mouse model of an eye disease to monitor animal health, administer drugs and measure responses to treatment, and perform injections and necropsies to harvest ocular tissues.
- Follow IACUC protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) and execute tasks independently.
- Communicate and coordinate with other scientists in the team to draft, finalize, and implement study protocols.
- Create and review SOPs and risk assessments as required.
- Manage inventories, perform lab housekeeping duties and look after general supplies and reagent ordering.
Requirements
- A Master’s degree in Veterinary Science, Biology, Biomedical Science, Pharmacology or equivalent with a minimum of 2 years of experience working with mice in various experiments needing drug application and monitoring responses.
- Expertise with rodent handling, restraining, dosing and necropsy is essential.
- Knowledge of eye anatomy and physiology will be beneficial, but not mandatory.
- Willingness to learn new techniques to monitor eye condition.
- Ability to mentor junior scientists on best practices in the laboratory would be highly valued.
