We are seeking an inspirational, experienced and highly motivated individual who is passionate about extending the life chances of those who are neurodiverse and/or have additional learning needs. Highly organised and able to foster and maintain positive relationships with learners, parents, peers and external agencies alike, the Learning Support Classroom Assistant is responsible for improving learner access to our dynamic curriculum and supporting Teachers in understanding their needs.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the guidance of the Director of Inclusion, the Learning Support: Social Emotional, Classroom Assistant facilitates the learning and development of individuals or groups of learners. The “social and emotional CA” job holder will engage in the targeted and responsive provision for learners who become dysregulated. They are responsible for developing a social and emotional wellbeing programme, making related interventions, and responding to crisis situations swiftly.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the personal, social and emotional development of learners
  • Oversee intervention programmes put in place by the Learning Support team and work with the Counselling Team to deliver interventions. This involves:
    Setting up individual programmes and designing appropriate schedules
    Develop and manage resources for Learning Support initiatives
    Carrying out push-in and pull-out interventions with individuals or groups of learners
    Assessment and monitoring of progress of learners on the Learning Support roll, including liaising with teachers to gather basic data
    Training and supporting colleagues
  • Facilitate the acquisition of emotional intelligence, to support learner agency and restorative approaches.
  • To be ‘on call’ to support withdrawal of learners who may become disruptive due to dysregulation.
  • To work in collaboration with peers to promote positive behaviour and growth mindsets both in group situations and on their own, in particular by:
    Assisting in motivating and encouraging the learners as required
    Contributing to areas requiring reinforcement or development, such as language development and positive engagement
    Promoting independent learning
  • Provide continuity of adult care of learners, for example, supervising daily playtimes
  • Assist with basic record-keeping, including collecting evidence of learning on individual learners, such as taking photographs, making observations, carrying out targeted assessments
  • Attend staff meetings, participate in performance management arrangements and undertake training and development activities
  • Be willing to attend and become involved in any professional development opportunities and adopt an attitude of professional reflection and continuous improvement

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Minimum O level education and equivalent (as per CPE guidelines), or higher qualification (Eg. Diploma, Degree)
  • Relevant working experience in an international context is preferred
  • Knowledge of and experience of working with learners with social and emotional needs
  • Knowledge of and experience delivering one to one and small group intervention programmes for social and emotional needs (e.g., mindfulness, social skills, etc)
  • A demonstrated and genuine passion for education and a desire to facilitate children’s learning; a genuine interest and passion for social and emotional development and wellbeing
  • Possess strong IT skills and knowledge, for example Apple devices and Google applications
  • Communicate effectively in Standard English both orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain positive learning-focused relationships with colleagues, learners and parents
  • To manage the physical demands of the role (eg: routinely sitting on child sized chairs, kneeling, bending and crouching)
  • High standards and expectations for themselves and the learners
