Caterpillar seeks a highly motivated and experienced team player to serve as a Assistant General Counsel in Singapore. This position is part of the Legal – Financial Products Division, as well as the broader Caterpillar Law, Security & Public Policy Group. This position will report to an Associate General Counsel in the U.S. and will be assigned a combination of responsibilities in various areas. The successful candidate may serve in Singapore on an international assignment, should speak strong English, have knowledge of both the Caterpillar business and the financial industry.
What You Will Do:
- Manage geographically dispersed team of legal professionals;
- Draft, review, revise, negotiate, and provide counsel to the business on commercial contracts;
- Advise management on legal issues arising from Caterpillar's relationship with third parties, including specific commercial, disputes, regulatory, compliance, investigation, and other issues that may arise from time to time;
- Work with other subject matter experts in Caterpillar;
- Provide counselling on legal matters and related risks and opportunities based on an accurate interpretation of the law as it applies to various situations;
- Have and/or develop a deep understanding of the business, to consult with management on matters involving significant risk to the enterprise and requiring a high degree of confidentiality.
- Work independently but with support and collaboration of other attorneys and senior leadership within the Law, Security & Public Policy Division;
- Participate in day-to day tactical legal practice, identifying and resolving issues in a variety of practice areas; and
- Coordinate with outside counsel in the region to obtain local advice.
What You Have:
- The ability to work in English, as well as the ability to maintain confidentiality, along with excellent interpersonal skills, personal accountability and the ability to understand how business works and to provide pragmatic legal counselling.
- Minimum requirements of the position include post-qualification legal experience, called to the bar in at least one jurisdiction and legally permitted to practice as an in-house lawyer in Singapore.
- Risk Management: Knowledge of processes, tools and techniques for assessing and controlling an organization's exposure to risks of various kinds; ability to apply knowledge of risk management appropriately to diverse situations. - Debates the pros and cons of various risk management models. - Implements function-wide risk management processes and tools.
- Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgmen - Differentiates assumptions, perspectives, and historical frameworks. - Evaluates past decisions for insights to improve decision-making process.
- Influencing: Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to impact decisions within and outside own organization. - Achieves influence and impact even when holding a position contrary to the majority. - Leads and presents collaborative assessments that persuasively influence decision makers.
- Negotiating: Knowledge of successful negotiation concepts and techniques; ability to negotiate successfully across the organization and with external vendors and clients in a constructive and collaborative manner. - Ensures negotiators have awareness of complementary yet diverse interests. - Successfully completes significant negotiations, both internal and external.
- Organizational Leadership: Knowledge of leadership concepts and ability to use strategies and skills to enlist others in setting, embracing and achieving objectives. - Experience managing a team of legal professionals - Manages own behaviors during interactions, such as feedback giving, to shape workplace events.
- Resource Management: Knowledge of the resources required to achieve business objectives; ability to plan, mobilize and distribute resources to fulfill business objectives and plans. - Calculates resource usage to set a baseline for comparison. - Specifies the critical resources required to accomplish the team's objectives.
