The Production Engineer will be part of a multi-disciplined team, providing support to the production elements of the Infrastructure Version 2 (IV2) applications. The role is centred on application support and requires a wide range of technical skills.
You will join the team that provides a platform that aims to be one one-stop shop for the production and consumption of community-driven digital services. These services range from providing on-demand compute resources to analytics platforms and DevOps utilities. This includes the support and project deliveries of the platform itself as well as onboarding new digital offerings into the platform.
Position Overview:
As a Production Engineer, you will support the Infrastructure Version 2 (IV2) applications, focusing on application support and a variety of technical tasks. You will collaborate with development, infrastructure, and Business IT teams to ensure seamless onboarding, support, and enhancement of digital services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify business cases for onboarding onto the IV2 platform.
- Provide end-to-end support from POC to production.
- Monitor, manage, and improve production environment performance.
- Customize production tools for monitoring, deployment, and scheduling.
- Contribute to technical projects, including architecture review and system migrations.
- Provide feedback and propose solutions for performance and capacity issues.
- Respond to incidents and resolve issues promptly.
Technical Skills:
- Strong system administration skills in Linux/Unix and knowledge of Windows systems.
- Understanding of global infrastructure, networking, and firewalls.
- Experience with load balancing technologies (e.g., F5 Big-IP).
- Proficiency with monitoring tools (e.g., ITRS Geneos).
- Automation skills with tools like Ansible and BMC BladeLogic.
- Programming and scripting skills in Python, Perl, Ruby, or Java.
- Experience with log indexing products such as Splunk and Elastic Search.
- Knowledge of web technologies like Tomcat, Apache, NGiNX, and IIS.
- Strong analytical skills for incident investigation and resolution automation.
Desirable Skills:
- Understanding of business requirements and technical solutions within IV2.
- Experience with Docker, Rancher, Jmeter, SQL Server, Oracle, and NoSQL DBs.
- Familiarity with application lifecycle and Agile methodology.
- Strong task management, prioritization, and risk management skills.
- Knowledge of ITIL for incident and problem management.
