Job Purpose
As an ASCT you will support the swimming teacher during swimming lessons. You will help teach our Kindergarten and Primary School students to develop swimming skills, technique and confidence in the water. You will lead sub-groups of the class. You will lead learn to swim, developmental and competitive swim squads during CCA and morning sessions. As a pool supervisor, you will supervise the lessons in the pool as an observer to ensure safe practice.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Duties as ASCT
· To deliver lessons, ensuring adherence to the values and vision of GESS
· To plan appropriate tasks for swimmers based on the objectives of the lesson
· Ensure all equipment and facilities are well maintained and correctly used at all times
· Ensure safety standards are followed in sessions
· To be a positive role model, creating a positive and fun environment in which to motivate and encourage children to participate in swimming
· Work alongside the Head of Swimming and other Swimming Teachers/Coaches
· Engagement in leading swimming specific CCA’s and swim squads as directed by the Head of Swimming
· Provide effective explanations and demonstrate swimming techniques
· Identify and correct faults in swimming techniques, and provide ways to improve performance
· Attend swim competitions and gala’s as requested by Head of Swimming
· You will not be asked to conduct student progress reports, but will be asked to give feedback on swimmers abilities.
· You will not be asked to engage directly with parents via email.
Duties as Pool Supervisor
· Observe classes and activities at the pool to maintain a safe learning environment.
· Be on watch for any students in distress and act accordingly
· Be the first response first aider, and manage appropriately (there is a full time first aid team on campus for any incidents)
Knowledge and Experience
· Applicants should hold recognised swimming certifications (ASCA Level 2 or equivalent preferred)
· Applicants should be comfortable leading groups;
o Primary learn to swim, Secondary learn to swim, Junior Swim Squad
· Demonstration of knowledge on how to differentiate a session and tasks
· Demonstration of knowledge in proficient/competitive swimming techniques
· Demonstration of willingness to learn from the Head of Swimming
Technical and Soft Skills
· Enthusiastic and positive attitude towards swimming
· Effective communicator
· The ability to inspire confidence and motivate swimmers
· The ability to calm and encourage young students
· An understanding of (or a willingness to learn) how to differentiate for multiple levels in a coaching session
Problem Solving / Decision Making Level and Freedom
· Applicant would be expected to take initiative in not specified tasks (Examples):
o Ensuring all equipment is safely stored
o Ensuring the following class equipment is readily available
o Communicating with facilities/head of Swimming on any needed maintenance
