Job Summary:
The Operations Lead coordinates and supervises Mobilisation and Geotechnical Equipment Maintenance activities so that all offshore spreads are prepared and ready for offshore operations with a particular attention to mobilisation plans, SAT’s, certification, bridging documentation.
The Operations Lead ensure both an effective and efficient execution of the agreed work during preparation and execution of a project in such manner that the QHSE, technical and contractual requirements are met. Maintain effective communication with project team members, critical equipment suppliers, sub-contractors and other stakeholders.
About the role:
- Take full charge and execute any specific mobilization activities, including development of procedures, task plans, lift plans, as instructed. Liaise with 3rd Party Naval Arch companies to have mobilisation structural plan and grillage details. Prepare Mobilisation specification and seek quotes from shipyard and 3rd party vendors.
- Ensure equipment planned maintenance records are filed and provide guidance to offshore project crew on technical fronts such as Troubleshooting, equipment maintenance. Seek OEM’s advise as and when necessary and provide the advisory to the project crew.
- Manages and monitors vessels preparation, if needed - On-hire surveys to the satisfaction of the project team and to satisfy COMPANY’s assurance process.
- Liaise with various local subcontractors as necessary, in conjunction with SCM / Procurement teams.
- Identify in advance need of additional support from installation engineers for critical activities,
- Ensure that all work performed complies with the requirements of the Project and is carried out in accordance with the rules and the methods of the Company.
- Ensure that all aspects of project Safety, Health & Quality are implemented on each of the work sites and report to Project’s HSE organisation as necessary.
- Ensures that inventory in the yards are kept up to date and equipment maintained as per the schedule.
- Prepare logistics plans relevant to the assigned vessel mob/demob and ensures alignment with Company’s procedures and HSSE guidelines. In absence of logistics co-ordinator, arranges the logistic arrangements.
- Workflows and processes are followed as per the RACI framework
- Attend daily conference call with Offshore Manager and Project Manager to ensure regular follow up of project needs in terms of personnel, equipment, planning during mobilisation, fieldwork and demobilisation phases
- Ensure project consumables (such as operational equipment (internal and external), survey consumables) required on top of vessel standard consumables are defined and delivered by project to the vessel.
- Must possess skill sets and demonstrate proven experience of developing, improving and streamlining processes to meet established goals and objectives. Require the ability to effectively manage projects that may vary in nature and scope.
- Plan, schedule and execute all mobilization and demobilization activities on assigned vessel.
- Ensure delivered project equipment are function-tested and calibrated with appropriate certification. Maintain record of certifications in operations folder dedicated to the project Mob/Demob.
- Validate sequence and associated schedule changes initiated by the project
Preferred experiences:
- Coordinated medium to large scale project mobilisations with resources coming in from multiple suppliers and countries
- Understanding the basics of marine ops i.e. DP, ASOG, MOPO, marine stability calculations, in general how weather affects DP and marine ops, and marine inspections/class compliance
- Logistics (how custom clearance works, CIPL, AWB, B/L paperwork required) – including what machines needed to transport equipment i.e. what capacity forklift, crane, low bed needed for different weights and in general a willingness to go into that level of granularity when dealing with logistics and agents
- Lifting (different types of cranes, incl offshore cranes and onshore cranes, basics of crane wires and wire greasing, spooling under tension, inspections and when wires need to be changed out) – also includes how to write and review lift plans, rigging angles and calculations, and what type of slings/shackles/master links to be used for load tests/regular lifting – this also requires that level of granularity when dealing with logistics and agents
- Grillage/A-frame design – understanding design factors, load factors, which class association standards to apply, reviewing design drawings and Finite Element Analysis, doing dimensional check on-board to look at whether a particular piece of grillage/A-frame or base frame can fit and where the sea-fastening points will be/does timber need to be removed or is there any reinforcement needed below deck
- Grillage/A-frame fabrication – how to review fabrication quotes and timelines, reviewing load test procedures, NDT methods and control points and how to lift structures and install them on deck. Understanding different types of welds (e.g. fillet weld, full penetration, etc.) and design of dog plates, shim plates and reviewing weld locations to ensure sea-fastening is secure. For bolted connections, looking at the bolt catalogue to ensure that bolt size and proposed bolt holes/washers are adequate for the load foreseen
- Crewing – understand marine and project crew matrix, keep close contact with agents to understand quarantine requirements and changing travel restrictions, ensure crew certification up to date
- Drawings – High level knowledge of Autocad, to do quick, last-minute changes in deck layout and to do checks to see if a certain type of equipment can fit somewhere on deck. Also, ability to read engineering drawings is critical to this role because even the tiniest modification to grillage, SBF, A frame etc. has engineering drawings and installation/ sea-fastening drawings.
- Inventory management – classification system for inventory in stores with assessment of forecast maintenance/replacement of parts and lifecycle estimates
- Procurement – level of detail needed in clarifications with contractors and creating bid evaluation table with detailed assessment of the merits of each bid and a recommendation from a technical standpoint.
About you:
- Education: Third-level technical or similar university degree education in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with several years’ work experience;
- Working experience: Minimum 5-8 years of experience, experience in the marine industry is essential
- Background experience working in subsea or marine construction projects is beneficial
- Management experience: Minimum 3-5 years of experience in supervisory positions. Proven Supervisor level experience with or without direct reports
- License/ certification/ qualification: Valid driver’s license with acceptable motor vehicle record required
- Languages & Proficiency: English (Fluent). High-level competence to communicate clearly and accurately, in English language, both verbal and written
Other experience:
- Proactive, positive attitude, meticulous with good attention to detail
- Strong ability to follow-up on pending actions / activities
- Flexible, reliable, independent, and able to work well in fast-paced, constantly changing environment
- Experience in a similar position (mainly offshore operations as field engineer or installation engineer, knowledge of transportation planning, lift planning…) is a plus.
- Engineering background is a must
- High-level knowledge of logistics field is a must
