Roles and Responsibilities
The Research Assistant will work closely with orthopaedic, vascular and plastic surgeons at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and Woodlands Health Campus to assist in the execution of clinical studies under the National Healthgroup Wounds iCare Collaborative Research and Clinical Workgroup (WiCC).
He/she will coordinate and monitor the progress of the studies to ensure that the studies are conducted ethically and in compliance with the Institutional Ethics Review Board ( ROAM ) requirements, Good Clinical Practice requirements, MOH Human Biomedical Research Act and related other guidelines/legislations.
Job Responsibilities
- Work with orthopaedic Surgeons, vascular Surgeons and plastic surgeons and other fellow research assistants in the above mentioned institutions to design, plan, monitor and coordinate clinical research projects or trials.
- Consenting patients for enrolment to the studies.
- Assist in the administrative duties relating to the setup of the clinical studies such as preparation of documents and forms for ethics submission, ensuring that study paperwork is handled punctually and appropriately.
- Ensure that ethics reviews/observations are tracked and necessary actions are taken in a timely manner.
- If needed, collecting study-related blood, wound or tissue specimens and sending them for processing within the stipulated time-frame
Requirements
- A Diploma/Bachelor degree in a scientific discipline (eg. Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology) or health related field.
- Relevant experience and knowledge in related areas such as registry management and research and knowledge of clinical trial management will be a bonus
- Experience in supporting write-up of clinical trial protocols and/or DSRB applications is an advantage.
- Strong understanding of the research process and related legislations. Experience with the different healthcare clusters’ clinical research is a plus.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Team player able to work independently and meticulously with good organizational skills.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, research statistics programs such as SPSS or Graphpad Prism and research registry systems such as REDCap
