Teacher of High School Spanish (1 year Local Contract)

UWCSEA East has a part-time vacancy for a one year local full-time teacher of High School Spanish from August 2024. (75% part-time load very likely to be available the year after.)

The successful candidate will teach a range of Spanish language acquisition classes from Beginner to Intermediate level in the High School. Enthusiasm for and experience of teaching students between age range 14 to ­18 is essential. Candidates who also have experience of teaching Primary and/or Middle School Spanish will be at an advantage. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate that they are an excellent and inspiring practitioner with the drive to continually develop within the profession. The actual determination of classes will be dependent on the skill set of the appointee, the needs of our students and timetabling requirements.

Please note that to apply for this role, you must have an internationally recognised qualification and reside in Singapore. You must also be readily available from August 2024.

Main Responsibilities

  • Teachers contribute positively to the collaborative culture of the Spanish Department, Languages faculty, and School teams.
  • Teachers construct learning experiences that challenge students, support diverse learners in each classroom, and demonstrate a strong commitment to concept-based teaching and learning.
  • Teachers utilise the UWCSEA Learning Principles as a foundation for effective teaching and learning.
  • Teachers ensure assessments support ongoing learning and provide timely, relevant and appropriate feedback to students on formative and summative assessments.
  • Teachers demonstrate effective classroom management that shows an understanding of the academic, social and emotional dimensions of learning.
  • Teachers keep parents informed about the learning of their children, and be proactive in communication with parents.

Expectations and Standards

Person Specifications

  • A good degree with a specialisation in an area specific to this position and a recognised teaching qualification or certification are expected.
    The ideal candidate has a proven record as a successful teacher of Spanish as an additional language.
    Teachers should be willing and eager to participate in the five key elements of a UWCSEA education: Academics; Activities; Outdoor Education; Personal and Social Education and Service.
    Academic expectations include enthusiastic participation in Professional Learning.
    On average the College expects a yearly contribution of two sessions per week in each season to Activities and/or Service, or equivalent for a part-time role.
    The College expects that teachers will participate enthusiastically in the curricular Outdoor Education experiences which are relevant to their students and will also occasionally volunteer for holiday Outdoor Education trips and/or Service trips.
    A commitment to diversity and inclusion is essential alongside a willingness to adapt and develop pedagogy to meet the needs of our learners.
    Applicants should have a passion for working with adolescents and younger children and understand their unique developmental needs.
