Salary Range: Will comensurate with experience


Role Overview and Comprehensive Responsibilities:

As the Program Coordinator of the School of Music, this position involves supporting the strategic oversight and operational management of the Music program, aligning educational practices with the strategic goals of the college under the guidance of the Dean and/or the Chief Academic Officer. The role emphasizes leadership in curriculum development, faculty management, and student success, ensuring the program adheres to the highest standards of music education. The Program Coordinator oversees operational management, budget planning, semester planning, and ongoing communication with academic staff and students.


Operational Management and Program Coordination:

  • Lead day-to-day operations of the music programs, ensuring smooth delivery and coordination.
  • Prepare and monitor program budgets, optimizing resource allocation and cost-effectiveness.
  • Coordinate semester planning, including academic staff deployment and assignments.
  • Review and monitor lesson plans and assessment briefs to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Apply expertise in curriculum design, pedagogy, and assessment in music education to enhance program delivery.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of a music curriculum that is contemporary, diverse, and compliant with accreditation standards.
  • Collaborate with the Dean and Academic Staff to integrate innovative teaching methods and improve program offerings.

Academic Staff and Student Engagement:

· Maintain regular communication with academic staff, providing support and guidance as needed.

· Engage with students, addressing their concerns and fostering a supportive learning environment.

· Coordinate and oversee audition processes for the music programs.

· Prepare and organize assessments, ensuring fair and accurate evaluation of student performance.

· Facilitate a learning environment that respects diverse backgrounds and perspectives, considering the needs of a diverse student body.


Program Administration and Meetings:

· Attend relevant meetings and represent the music programs in college-wide discussions.

· Organize and facilitate assessment moderation meetings and exercises to ensure consistent grading standards.

· Gather feedback from students and academic staff to make recommendations for program improvements.

· Engage in marketing and liaison activities, such as Open Days and events with stakeholders.


Curriculum Support and Implementation:

· Assist in the implementation of the music curriculum, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards.

· Support the integration of innovative teaching methods and best practices in program delivery.

· Contribute to course content development that meets the needs of a diverse student body.

· Facilitate language learning with a focus on real-world application and cultural immersion, leveraging expertise in applied linguistics and language acquisition.


Community Engagement and Industry Relations:

  • Facilitate connections with music industry stakeholders to enhance educational programs and create opportunities for students.
  • Represent the School of Music at college-wide events and contribute to community outreach programs.

Professional Development and Collaboration:

· Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in music education.

· Collaborate with the Program Head and faculty members to support program-related initiatives.

· Work with full-time faculty to ensure continuity and consistency in curriculum.

· Participate in department meetings, school-wide training events, and attend relevant workshops.


Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Education, or a closely related field.
  • Experience in Music Education: Proven track record in teaching and managing aspects of a music program, including student and curriculum management.
  • Leadership Skills: Ability to lead a team of educators, manage faculty development, and maintain a collaborative environment.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication skills necessary for effective coordination with students, faculty, and external stakeholders.
  • Organizational Abilities: Competence in handling administrative tasks such as scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.

Desirable Qualifications and Skills:

  • Advanced Education: A Master’s degree or higher in Music or Music Education, enhancing understanding and depth in the field.
  • Technological Proficiency: Familiarity with the latest educational technologies and digital platforms used in music education.
  • Pedagogical Competence: Knowledge of contemporary pedagogical practices in music education, which would be valuable for implementing innovative teaching methods and enhancing student learning experiences.
  • Creative Industry Experience: Practical involvement in the music industry, such as performance, composition, or production work, which contributes to a deeper understanding and advancement of music education practices.
