The School of Materials Science & Engineering is looking to hire a Research Fellow with extensive experience in hardware design and development. The successful candidate will drive the creation of new generations of soft grippers, designed using physics-guided neural networks. These grippers will feature optimized capabilities that leverage ongoing work in actuation, sensing, and advanced fabrication within the SGSR team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for design, prototyping, and testing of new advanced soft grippers.
- Formulate experiments to gather data used for training and optimization.
- Interact with other teams to gather data on sensing and actuation.
- Responsible for gripper control approaches.
- Responsible for designing and optimizing application related hardware setups for soft grippers.
Job Requirements:
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Robotics.
- Experienced CAD user (SolidWorks or Fusion 360).
- Evidence (e.g. portfolio) of prototype development from concept to implementation.
- Experience using Machine Vision.
- Experience with programming languages (C, C++, Python) and embedded systems.
- Experience using Additive Manufacturing processes.
