About the Role
We are seeking a talented, driven and digitally-savvy supervisor to join the ST Now desk, to guide a team of reporters in creating compelling content for both our digital and print platforms. The team handles breaking and trending news, both locally and globally.
The ideal candidate should have at least 8-10 years in journalism and experience in leading a group of reporters, including assigning and editing copy across a wide range of topics, story types and formats. A candidate with prior on-ground reporting experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Identify critical news developments and trending stories that are relevant to ST’s audience. You will quite often be required to make quick, sound editorial decisions
- Manage a team of reporters and edit their stories to ensure the content is accurate, engaging, comprehensive, of high quality and published in a timely manner
- Guide reporters in copytasting and curating foreign news for ST
- Coordinate with ST’s other sections on story development and evergreen content production
- Ensure that all content is optimised for SEO and social media
Key Requirements:
- Have a sharp news sense with the ability to identify information gaps, edit and produce quality stories under tight deadlines
- Have a keen interest in, and thorough knowledge of, the international news agenda
- Previous experience of working in a newsroom
- Excellent command of English as well as strong writing and editing skills
- Willingness to work on shifts, weekends and/or public holidays
- Strong communication and people management skills
