Main Duties and Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Assistant Chief Engineer to join the pre-opening team for the Mandai Rainforest Resorts by Banyan Tree. Possessing strong technical skills and leadership abilities, the incumbent will support the Director of Engineering to maintain all the Resort’s facilities, ensuring all engineering systems are functioning efficiently.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Engineering in overseeing the daily operations of the Engineering Department, including maintaining and repairing the Resort’s equipment and systems. In performing this role, the incumbent will conduct routine inspections, determine appropriate rectification measures and ensure ongoing preventive maintenance.
  • Ensure adherence and compliance with all engineering related regulations as well as safety, health and environmental standards. The Assistant Chief Engineer will be responsible for establishing and updating emergency procedures, conducting regular inspections and maintaining records.
  • Cultivate a strong people culture by investing in the coaching and development of team members. The Assistant Chief Engineer will take ownership of people-management matters for the department including recruiting, upskilling and mentoring team members. This includes coaching team members to ensure that all day-to-day operational matters are handled on time and that guest expectations are met.


Job Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Engineering, Facilities Management or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar capacity, preferably in the hospitality industry. Pre-opening experience and Fire Safety knowledge would be useful.
  • Proven track record in maintenance and knowledge of electrical, plumbing and other mechanical systems. This includes the ability to interpret technical manuals, blueprints and other related documents.
  • Able to commit to after office hours duties when required and/or shift work.
  • Able to work and lead contractors in all work-related activities.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
