Project Officer (Communications and Engagement, Climate Transformation Programme)

A Project Officer position is currently available in the Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS).

The Climate Transformation Programme (CTP) aims to develop, inspire and accelerate knowledge-based solutions and educate future leaders to establish the stable climate and environment necessary for resilient, just, and sustainable Southeast Asian societies.

CTP will generate knowledge and innovation across disciplines including climate and Earth science, ecology, materials science, artificial intelligence, humanities, social sciences and the arts, finance, health, and engineering. It will also translate state-of-the-art scientific results into real world solutions for Singapore, and it will transfer these solutions to Southeast Asia (SEA) and beyond.

As part of this programme, the Community Engagement office of the Earth Observatory of Singapore will work across the different research clusters and cross cutting themes to promote the programme and work with communities so they can benefit from its findings and activities.

The Project Officer (Communications and Engagement, Climate Transformation Programme) will be based at the Earth Observatory of Singapore at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. The incumbent will be part of the EOS Community Engagement office and will work closely with researchers of the CTP.

The Project Officer will create content that engages a broad audience about the research and activities conducted by the CTP, and will communicate the findings and impacts with a range of stakeholders. The incumbent will also help develop and coordinate engagement opportunities that educate stakeholders of the programme about climate change, inspire actions, and contribute to building a community of problem solvers to address climate change. Finally, he/she/they will collect appropriate data to evaluate these different activities.

The position will be key to help build trust with the internal and external stakeholders of the programme, and to ensure the climate solutions developed by the CTP benefit a range of stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with cross-functional teams to gather updates and content about the programme, and curate content for various communications and engagement initiatives.
  • Craft content, such as long-form stories and content for social media, about the activities and research findings of the programme, in collaboration with the CTP researchers and under the guidance of the EOS Community Engagement Office.
  • Create targeted products that communicate results of the programme to relevant stakeholders, including government agencies and the general public, under the supervision of RO.
  • Develop and support engagement initiatives associated with the CTP, including meetings and activities conducted with the different stakeholders.
  • Participate in and contribute to internal meetings to promote inter-disciplinary research and exchange of information.
  • Participate in various public engagement activities, working closely with the EOS Community Engagement Office, to promote the research programme.
  • Provide research support as needed, such as background literature review.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications or related field with experience in communicating about Earth and/or Climate sciences, Or Bachelor’s degree in Earth Sciences or Environmental Studies with experience in science communications.
  • Passionate about climate education and about accelerating solutions for climate resilience and sustainable societies.
  • Experience with communicating science to non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communications skills.
  • Self-driven and highly motivated to seek and pursue opportunities that help achieve programme KPIs.
  • Experience with working with cross-functional teams and interested to work with researchers and science communicators to develop and produce high-quality and impactful content and initiatives.
  • Well organised with experience in project management.
  • Preferably with experience working with Singapore government agencies, corporate partners, community groups and media.
  • Evidence of being able to work both independently and collaboratively, with a strong team spirit.
