Speech & Drama Teacher

Lorna Whiston Schools conducts classes for students ranging in age from 18 months to 16 years, with the broad aim of improving their English language skills.

Our Speech and Drama Centre focuses on helping students develop their communication, language, speech, and performance and presentation skills. Students attend classes for one and a half hours per week. Our Speech and Drama teachers usually have specialist Speech & Drama qualifications and / or experience. Most students are Singaporean and attend Speech and Drama classes for one and a half hours per week, in groups of a maximum of 12 students, arranged by age level.


The successful candidate will work towards helping learners make excellent progress with their English, engendering in them a love of learning by delivering the LWS curriculum in an engaging, interactive and professional manner and contributing positively to life at Lorna Whiston Schools.


Planning, Teaching and Class Management

  • To prepare and deliver the Lorna Whiston Speech and Drama curriculum with care and enthusiasm, in ways that facilitate active learning, excite curiosity and enrich the learners’ knowledge and understanding.
  • To meet the learning objectives of each programme in the speech and drama department
  • To differentiate learning activities to meet the varying needs of the students in each class.
  • To use relevant teaching resources to support instruction.
  • To play an active role in improving and/or developing new curriculum to meet the needs of the organization and its students.
  • To highlight to the line manager or Head Teacher on any matters concerning student development, performance or behaviour that are of concern.
  • To create a stimulating, tidy and interactive environment for students’ learning.
  • To establish routines and enforce age-appropriate classroom management procedures.
  • To ensure that the students are supervised and safe at all times.

Monitoring, Assessment, Reporting and Recording

  • To encourage and monitor the development and progress of each individual student through age-appropriate assessment and careful observation.
  • To provide students, parents and other stakeholders with appropriate and constructive feedback on progress made, both on an on-going basis and during our more formal parent-teacher meetings.
  • To maintain accurate and complete records of students' attendance, progress, development, and any other records required by the Company.

Activities to support the Lorna Whiston Brand

  • To be an ambassador for Lorna Whiston Schools (LWS).
  • To build a strong and positive rapport with students and parents.
  • To participate in company marketing initiatives and events and activities that are organized or supported by LWS.
  • To participate in school meetings and parent-teacher meetings.
  • To liaise with colleagues on areas requiring collaboration, and to work flexibly for the needs of the enrichment programme in the Speech and Drama Department.
  • To establish effective and professional working relationships and set a good example through personal presentation and professional conduct.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor degree in Education / Drama / English / Theatre Arts / Musical Theatre / Liberal Arts / Arts & Social Science
  • Diploma in Teaching of Speech and Drama / Musical Theatre from any main performing arts board such as Trinity College London, London Academy of Dramatic Arts (LAMDA), Central School of Music & Drama
  • At least 2 years of teaching experience in drama setting (in either a full school or an enrichment centre)
  • Demonstrate effective communication, rapport and engagement with children and parents.
  • Possess excellent organisational and time-management skills.
