Duty Engineer

The Duty Engineer is responsible to assist the Chief Engineer / Assistant Chief Engineer in the operation and maintenance of the building to ensure a high standard of upkeep and maintenance to the satisfaction of the building owner and guests / tenants.


To assist the Chief Engineer / Assistant Chief Engineer to carry alteration and addition works, major replacement of equipment, tenancy works of the building, etc, as may be required from time to time to meet the needs that have arisen.


To attend or conduct meeting with other department managers in the absence of Chief Engineer / Assistant Chief Engineer.


This role reports directly to the Chief Engineer/ Assistant Chief Engineer

  • To assist the Chief Engineer / Assistant Chief Engineer and be directly involved in the day-to-day operations of the Engineering Department.
  • To delegate work promptly to the maintenance team and ensure that work is properly done.
  • To ensure that the staff in the department provides a high standard of engineering services which meets the expectations of the building owner / tenants / guests / shoppers
  • To plan, schedule and co-ordinate all preventive / breakdown maintenance and repair work.
  • To assist the Chief Engineer to prepare the duty roster of maintenance staff ensuring that there are adequate Engineering staff providing services to the Hotel at all times.
  • To supervise contractors within the hotel and ensure work is carried out on time and to specified standards.
  • To ensure proper inventory control of spare parts and material.
  • To ensure that the engineering workshop, store and engineering plant room are properly cleaned daily.
  • To conduct daily staff briefing.
  • To assist the Chief Engineer / Assistant Chief Engineer to obtain quotations for all the necessary works by external agencies / contractors and for all necessary purchases from suppliers.
  • To contribute towards cost management of the department and ensure that there are no wastage, negligence or dishonesty.
  • Mentor, coach & orientate new as well as existing staff in their roles & responsibilities towards the department goals
  • To conduct department training when required and provide second line technical support on the job. Discipline the staff if misconduct
  • To participate in fire-fighting and safety exercise. To ensure that effective practice and enforcement of local Health & Safety regulations are met.
  • Assist department to comply all authorities' requirement

Projects:

  • Planning, implementing, coordinating & monitoring work and schedule with subcontractor
  • Engage in meetings with sub-contractors to ensure smooth progression and competition of work and updating daily activities to Chief Engineer
  • Ensure inspection & checking on site works
  • Preparation of monthly progress report

Other Responsibilities:

  • To ensure that Hotel management is satisfied with the quality of services rendered by the Engineering department.
  • To ensure that the Hotels guests receive an adequate level of engineering services that satisfies their concerns and needs.
  • Review M&E / building as-built drawings and sketch the drawing if require


Job requirements

  • Candidate must possess at least Higher Nitec, ITE or Polytechinc Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical or Building Services or equivalent. Preferably with Engineering Degree.
  • Preferably with minimum 3 years or more of experience in Engineering management in similar capacity or 5 years as a Supervisor in Engineering or related industries.
  • Able to deal with suppliers / contractors / government bodies
  • Able to manage various projects at any point of time.
  • Able to use Microsoft Word, Excel of computer for preparing reports
  • Sound Knowledge of Hotel Engineering and Management
  • Sound knowledge in Mechanical / Electrical / Building Engineering
  • Possess skills in maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing of building equipment
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written), able to resolve any conflicts.
  • Good coaching skill, ability to lead the junior maintenance staff.
  • Willingness to learn and work as a team member
  • Possess high level of integrity and respect for others
  • Able to withstand huge pressure and stress towards work
  • Outgoing personality
  • Responsible to his work, hardworking, good initiative with cost saving in mind
  • Self-confident, self esteem
  • Good problem solving skills necessary
  • Able to put in long hours when required and 24 hours standby for any technical problem occurring
  • No criminal record
  • No external commitment that clash with work
