Job Description

Rainfall-induced erosion failure of the slope is a severe concern in many tropical countries as it can harm public safety and/or infrastructure. The impact could be especially severe in Singapore as our population density is high and our infrastructure development is very dense; hence, some of these slopes are near to the infrastructure development and residential areas. The erosion failure can also lead to high repair costs. Singapore is tropical country with very high annual rainfall. Climate change seems to intensify our rainfall and increase its frequency. And this will increase the occurrence of erosion failure of slope.

This project seeks to study this and develop an “Erosion Risk Map” for Singapore. The scope of works includes the reviewing the mechanism of slope erosion, studying erosion potential subject to rainfall condition, conducting laboratory model testing, supervising site scan on the physical condition for selected slopes in Singapore for risk map development.

Responsibilities:

Conduct Research:
• Design and execute experiments to analyze the effects of climate change on erosion patterns.
• Utilize fieldwork, laboratory testing, and modeling techniques to gather relevant data.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate findings into comprehensive research projects.

Data Analysis and Interpretation:
• Process and analyze large datasets to derive meaningful insights.
• Develop models to predict erosion trends under various climate change scenarios.
• Present findings through reports, publications, and presentations.

Innovation and Technology:
• Stay abreast of advancements in erosion research, climate science, and relevant technologies.
• Explore innovative approaches to mitigate the impact of climate change on erosion.

Collaboration:
• Work closely with researchers, scientists, and environmental experts to foster a collaborative research environment.
• Engage with external partners and stakeholders to share knowledge and gather diverse perspectives.

Project Management:
• Lead and contribute to research projects, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met.
• Effectively communicate progress and challenges to project stakeholders.

Job Requirements

• Possess a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or related field.
• Proven experience in erosion research, climate change impact assessment, or related areas.
• Strong background in data analysis, modeling, and simulation techniques.
• Passionate about environmental sustainability and addressing climate change challenges.
• Detail-oriented, analytical mindset, and problem-solving skills.
