About Engineering Good
Engineering Good (EG) is a non-profit organisation based in Singapore, founded in 2014. We aim to support disadvantaged and special needs communities by enabling access to digital education and economic opportunities and helping them overcome daily challenges through innovative technological and engineering solutions. Our work focuses on two main areas: Digital Inclusion and Assistive Technology.
Digital Inclusion (DI)
Our Digital Inclusion efforts involve refurbishing used laptops, which we then redistribute to communities in need, such as low-income families. This program not only provides essential access for disadvantaged individuals and families to the digital world but also helps reduce e-waste and environmental impact.
Assistive Technology (AT)
In our Assistive Technology programs, we leverage the diverse talents of our skilled volunteer community to create assistive technology products. These products help persons with disabilities overcome barriers to daily living activities, in areas such as education, recreation, and employment, enabling them to reach their full potential and live more independently.
Our Impact
Since our inception, we have refurbished and distributed over 8,000 laptops, reduced more than 20,000 kg of e-waste, built and distributed over 2,000 assistive devices, and partnered with over 200 social service agencies in Singapore. Our work has enabled low-income students to attend online classes, assisted visually impaired individuals in their daily activities, helped children learn coding, and much more. This is made possible through the dedication of our team of volunteers and staff. Job Purpose
As Technical Specialist for the Digital Inclusion Programme, you will play a critical role in running the day-to-day operations of liaising with donors for the collection of used laptops, managing the refurbishing process, managing our community of volunteers, and collaborating with our partner social services agencies to distribute the refurbished laptops to individuals and families. You will regularly refine the end-to-end process, including optimising procedures for the used laptop hardware checks, software installation and quality control testing. You will maintain and update the scripts used to automate some of the software installation and testing processes. You will act as the ambassador of Engineering Good, and advocate on our social impact mission to support disadvantaged individuals and families by enabling them to access opportunities in the digital economy through the digital inclusion programme.
You will be responsible to help upkeep the community spirit by working closely with volunteers and staff. In your role, you will be required to conduct workshops, facilitating laptop refurbishing training for our eager volunteers so that they can eventually be part of our dream team to better drive the needs of our programmes’ beneficiaries and fulfil our social impact mission.
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for the following:
- Manage the day-to-day operations for EG’s CAC (Computer Access for the Community) Digital Inclusion Programme that refurbish used laptops for distribution to individuals and families
- Maintain and update the scripts used to automate some of the software installation and testing processes
- Regularly refine the end-to-end process, including optimising procedures for the used laptop hardware checks, software installation and QC testing.
- Curate best practices for the effective refurbishing of used laptops
- Mentor interns in the laptops QC, refurbishment, and dissemination process
- Collaborate with community partners and other charities on the distribution of laptops
- Monitor the key indicators and goals required for grants’/sponsors’ reporting and ensure KPIs are fulfilled
- Coordinate, facilitate, and support volunteer workshops as part of CAC operational needs
- Volunteer engagement and conduct guided tours of EG’s facility for corporates and individual visitors
Qualifications and Skills

- Tech savvy, keen interests in IT/computer/software technology
- Hands-on practical experience in assembling your own computer.
- Experience in troubleshooting computer/laptop hardware and software.
- Familiar with software installation
- Software programming skill, will be an advantage
