JOB DESCRIPTION

The Facilities, Health & Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of all facilities, promoting a safe and healthy environment for learners, staff, and visitors. This role encompasses overseeing maintenance, managing health and safety protocols, and implementing policies and procedures to maintain compliance with relevant regulations.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the maintenance and operation of all facilities within the school premises, including buildings, grounds, and equipment.
  • Coordinate repairs, renovations, and upgrades as necessary, ensuring minimal disruption to daily operations.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors, contractors, and service providers for facility-related tasks.
  • Develop and maintain a preventive maintenance schedule to prolong the lifespan of facilities and equipment.
  • Monitor energy usage and implement strategies for conservation and efficiency.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce health and safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local regulations and international standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify potential hazards and risks, taking corrective actions as needed.
  • Provide training to staff on safety protocols, emergency procedures, and the use of safety equipment.
  • Maintain records of safety inspections, incidents, and corrective actions taken.
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to develop emergency response plans and conduct drills to ensure preparedness.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements without compromising safety or quality standards.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for senior management regarding the status of facilities, health, and safety initiatives.
  • Any other related duties that may be assigned from time to time by the Line Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree in facilities management, occupational health and safety, or related field; relevant certifications or advanced degrees are desirable.
  • Proven experience in facilities management, preferably in an educational or institutional setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices.
  • Strong leadership and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in using relevant software and tools for facilities management, safety inspections, and reporting.
  • Problem-solving mindset and attention to detail.
  • Flexibility to respond to emergencies or urgent situations outside of regular working hours.
