The Rat Control Section is responsible for overseeing island-wide rat control operations, with a specific focus on identifying and addressing potential areas of rat harbourage. Additionally, the section plays a pivotal role in exploring the integration of technologies into NEA's daily operations, with a strong emphasis on improving public health. Furthermore, the department is responsible for overseeing contract management for NEA's deployment of technology for rat control.
You will work with the stakeholders to plan and implement environmental public health programmes in areas of rat surveillance and control, to meet the environmental public health needs of Singapore. You will be responsible for the following:
- Carry out day/night inspections in commercial premises and public places to ensure no propagation of vectors and undertake necessary response actions
- Provide technical advice and engage the public or owners of premises on preventive and control measures to keep their premises free of vectors
- Deploy and supervise work performances of outsourced contractors
- Manage the deployment of surveillance equipment in indoor premises and outdoor settings
- Investigate feedback related to vector nuisance and sanitation issues related to vectors propagation
- Recommend/carry out enforcement actions that contravene the Environmental Public Health Act (EPHA), Control of Vectors and Pesticide Act (CVPA) and their subsidiary legislations
- Any other duties with regard to vector control work as specified
The ideal candidate should possess the following qualities and qualifications:
- 1-2 years of relevant working experience in the areas of vector management
- Strong interest in Environmental Public Health
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Good team player with strong interpersonal skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Keen sense of observation
- Physically fit to perform outdoor field work
- Organised and able to multi-task
- Mature, independent and resourceful
- Self-driven and always ready to strive for improvement
- Able to work night shift and on weekends or after office hours
