HCIS Residence is committed to promote holistic development of boarding students by creating a positive living and learning environment to enhance student development beyond the classroom. We provide quality programs, services and facilities for students to grow and develop in various aspects of their lives to become inclusive and exemplary leaders, life-long inquirers and caring members of the community.
As members of the school community, Residence Mentors (Residential) work with the Head of Boarding and Boarding Manager closely to run daily boarding operations. The roles of a Residence Mentor are:
- As a disciplinarian to instill self-discipline and good time management of each boarder
- As a caregiver to nurture the social-emotional development of each boarder
- Create and maintain a supportive atmosphere for student learning and development within the boarding community
- Assist boarders in transition, to learn life skills in resolving conflicts, as well as manage learning, character building, and independence. To guide boarders to develop a sense of community through supervision and participation in programmes and activities
Job Description
- Develop a trusting relationship with boarders and attend to their needs and issues
- Manage discipline of boarders including safety and security of boarders
- Contact point with parents and teachers of boarders assigned
- Develop and conduct boarding programs and activities
- Perform all administrative work related to the role
- Perform Duty-Mentor duties on weekends, school holidays and public holidays on a rotational basis
- Perform room checks and follow up on defects rectification
- Bring boarders to ICA, embassy for appointment and unwell boarders to clinic
- Take on reception duties, show-room tours, escort vendors, as and when assigned
- Provide administrative, operational support or any other miscellaneous tasks as assigned by the Reporting Officer
Requirements
- Minimum diploma holder with min 1-2 years of relevant working experience preferred. Those without experience may apply as training will be provided
- Possess appropriate dispositions such as empathy towards students and managing the demands of the job
- Good verbal and written communication skills, especially in English and Mandarin, to handle queries and concerns from Mandarin-speaking associates with regards to the programmes and activities
- Organised, meticulous, and able to multitask
- Experience with boarding services and guiding youth will be a good fit for the role
- Additional skill-sets like first-aid and mentoring students would be an added advantage
- Residing within the Boarding residence is required and working hours are Mondays to Fridays from 3pm to 11pm and monthly weekend duties will be involved
