Nurse Manager / Senior Nurse Manager

Our client is a large and established Community Hospital in Singapore.


Reporting to the Director of Nursing (DON) or the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) the role of the Nurse Manager/Senior Nurse Manager encompasses the following:-


  1. To effectively coordinate, manage and evaluate the healthcare services of the wards, ensuring that high standards of nursing care and patient safety are delivered at all times in accordance with legal, professional and hospital requirement.
  2. To assist the DON/ADON to formulate procedures, protocols and policies in order to always upgrade the quality of nursing care in our client's hospital.


Principle Accountabilities


Professional

  • Build a positive work environment by guiding staff to support the mission and vision of the hospital providing developmental opportunity and encouraging teamwork.
  • To ensure that staffing is adequate to meet organisation goals and requirements of the ward. Ensure staff compliance with the hospital policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines.
  • Responsible for effective management of ward-based quality service programme in accordance with organisation quality service programme.
  • Responsible for supervision evaluation and disciplining the performance of all staff within scope of responsibility. Work with staff to resolve interpersonal conflict without the need to involve DON/ADON.
  • Responsible for upholding the policies and values of the organisation and the nursing profession. Consistently demonstrate a willingness to assist DON/ADON or staff members on work that needs to be completed.

Management

  • To identify training and development needs of nursing cum auxiliary staff, promoting research and integrating evidenced-based knowledge into the delivery of nursing care and nursing administration.
  • To coordinate teamwork in total patient care with all members from nursing as well as other departments.
  • To constantly motivate staff to perform at their optimal level.
  • To identify needs for improvement in delivery of service and assist in problem solving. Effectively intercede with family and patient and resolve concerns related to the delivery of healthcare services.
  • To maintain systematic inventory control of drugs, ward stock and assets acquired by the wards in order to achieve optimal utilisation and safe storage.
  • To orientate new nursing personnel to the wards. Ensure an orientation plan is in place for each new staff with the assignment of a qualified preceptor.
  • Ensure safe storage of all confidential records and documents and that patients’ confidentiality is maintained at all times.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate inservice and other education programmes; oversee the training of NYP and HMI nurse-trainees attached to the wards.
  • Assist DON/ADON with assessment of nurses’ competency programme.

Others

  • To promote effective and cooperative working relationship within the wards and all internal and external customer groups.
  • To utilise good communication skills to develop and maintain productive relationship within wards and other departments, agencies and the public.
  • To participate in organisational committees, workgroup activities as required.
  • To ensure staff’s familiarity with all emergency protocols such as fire and safety, evacuation plan, code blue protocol.
  • To undertake the role of managing the nursing services as rostered by the DON/ADON.
  • Assist the DON/ADON in Licensing and Audits activities.
  • Provide coverage for the DON and ADON in their absence.
  • Assist with efficient utilisation of beds, check that movements of all patients are updated timely. Inform doctors when bed shortage is anticipated or encountered.

Qualification

  • SRN preferably with one relevant post basic qualification.

Experience

  • A minimum of 7 to 10 years of post qualification experience.

Special Aptitude And Knowledge

  • Has multiple capabilities, which include personal integrity and self-awareness;
  • Ability to formulate and share vision; capability to set goals, plan and implement change;
  • Ability to create an atmosphere that supports communication and promotes accountability; and at the same time engender mutual respect among caregivers;
  • Has wide depth of experience in nursing.
  • Able to make decisions and execute policies in the interest of the hospital and to be sensitive but firm in staff management.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, cost estimating and fiscal management principles and procedures.
