Job Description
The National University of Singapore invites applications for the position of Research Engineer in the Department of Information Systems and Analytics, School of Computing.
The Research Engineer will be responsible for working closely with the Principal Investigator (A/Prof Suranga Nanayakkara) on developing a platform to investigate the use of Productive Failure as a design paradigm for learning computational thinking.
The Research Engineer will work in the broader field of Human Computer Interaction (HCI) on prototyping, developing and testing both full-stack and embedded software specifications of the human computer interfaces. The Research Engineer will also be involved in developing various artefacts contributing to the Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) aspect of HCI research, and leading appropriate research activities.
The potential candidate should possess experience or interest in following areas:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering (or equivalent)
- Good understanding of software architecture, full-stack development, web programming, mobile development and DevOps workflows.
- At least 1-2 years’ experience in Software development including:Mobile Platforms: Android/iOS development, web development
Programming Languages: Java, JavaScript, C, C++, C#, Python, PHP, Objective-C, Unity, MaxMSP, MATLAB, Blender
Database Technologies: MySQL, SQLite, PostgreSQL, Tableau
Machine Learning: PyTorch, TensorFlow, OpenCV
Prototyping: Arduino IDE, PlatformIO - Experience conducting user studies in the context of Technology Enhanced Learning
- Publication record in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Computer Science Education (CSE) venues
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
The initial term of appointment will be 1 year (renewable) contract.
