The School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering (MAE) invites applications for the position of Project Officer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work is related to project officer to support metal 3D printing in particular metal jet binding and wire arc additive manufacturing.
- Experimental Design and Execution.
Design and conduct experiments related to MJB and WAAM processes. Develop and optimize printing parameters to improve print quality and efficiency. - Process Monitoring, Control, Maintenance and Calibration.
Monitor the 3D printing process to ensure consistency and quality of the output. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues that arise during printing. Regularly maintain and calibrate 3D printing equipment to ensure optimal performance. Perform routine checks and preventative maintenance on lab equipment. - Material Handling and Post Processing.
Select and prepare materials for the printing process, including metals and alloys. Test and evaluate new materials for suitability in MJB and WAAM. Perform necessary post-processing steps such as heat treatment, machining, and surface finishing. Evaluate the mechanical properties and structural integrity of printed parts. - Data Collection and Analysis.
Collect data during experiments and analyze results to draw meaningful conclusions. Use statistical tools and software to interpret data and identify trends. Build up the database for MJB and WAAM which is an important deliverable for the project. - To support student projects.
Overall responsible for managing the student/team projects in its daily operations, he/she will:
Manage resources and work schedules overseen by the PI.
Reporting to the PI, assist, manage and supervise the projects including final year projects and subject modules
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to analyse and solve complex issues related to the aforementioned.
Expected to accompany student to competitions in the role of mentor.
Assist students to prepare for the logistics and accommodation matters when attending competition
Advising and mentoring students on their research projects, offering guidance and support.
Providing feedback and performance evaluations for students working in the lab. - Team collaboration.
Work closely with researchers, engineers, and other team members on various projects.
Participate in team meetings and contribute to project planning and progress discussions. - Documentation.
Maintain detailed records of experiments, protocols, and results. Prepare technical reports, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and research papers. - Inventory Management.
Manage inventory of materials, tools, and equipment. Order supplies and ensure adequate stock levels are maintained. - Compliance and Safety.
Ensure all lab activities comply with safety regulations and protocols. Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures. - Industry and Academic Partnerships.
Collaborate with industry partners on joint projects and research initiatives. Attend conferences, workshops, and seminars to stay updated on the latest developments in 3D printing technologies. - Proposal Writing.
Assist in writing grant proposals and project bids to secure funding for research projects.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor degree in Engineering or equivalent
- Experience in 3D printing with at least 5 years of various roles in a 3D printing laboratory, company or setup with relevant skillsets
- Fluent in use of CAD in engineering design
- Fluent in machining learning algorithm and experiences with various artificial intelligence (AI) application tools
- Knowledge in selection, sourcing, and application in one or more of the following areas: mechanical/mechatronics/electrical/electronics/interfacing circuit design
- Experienced in prototyping using a variety of machining and CNC tools and handling 3D printing machines.
- Practical and hands-on, active self-learner and able to pay close attention to detail.
- Proficiency in English and verbal communication, have strong work ethic and can work independently and comfortably in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Exceptional CAD, 3D printing prototyping and problem solving skills.
- Capable of working independently and within a team, while supervising other students working on their projects on related areas.
- Can communicate and present technically complex issues to multidisciplinary/multinational teams.
- Have a good design sense and aptitude.
- Have outstanding team management and leadership skills
