Project Engineer & Cargo Superintendent

Role Purpose

To safely plan and load cargo onto the vessels operated in Swire Projects Fleet.


Role Accountabilities

  • Assisting in cargo transport and engineering for any types of cargo on various vessels.
  • Providing transport engineering solutions in areas such as heavy lifting, sea-fastening, ship stability and structural analysis.
  • Preparing and updating cargo stowage, lifting, sea-fastening and other relevant operational plans.
  • Providing technical support, advice, and solutions to the commercial and chartering teams in transport cargo projects tenders and enquiries.
  • Planning and developing optimal operational and transport engineering solutions, which are safe and cost-effective cargo operations together with the commercial and operations teams, and cargo superintendents.
  • Coordinating and managing cargo operations and projects.
  • Attending technical and operations meetings with clients and various stakeholders.
  • Assisting and ensuring all operations, i.e., loading and discharging, are conducted in accordance with the latest plans, relevant policies, procedures, agreements, and legislative requirements.
  • Conducting pre-inspection of cargo and attending pre-operations meetings to ensure smooth and safe cargo - loading and discharging – operation.
  • Supervising and assisting as Cargo Superintendent (CSI) on board during all loading and discharging operation.
  • Monitoring and reporting of daily operations on board.
  • Preparing detailed reports on the loading / discharge operations.
  • Ensuring that all HSE company standards are maintained all the time by the vessel crew, stevedores, sub-contractor and third party on board during the ship’s port calls.

Safety

  • Take responsibility for the safety of myself and those around me by displaying safety leadership principles (i.e. Safety I’s & Accountability ladder).
  • Challenging and stopping unsafe acts and behaviours or unsafe conditions.
  • Comply with the Global Safety Standards, Policies and Operating Procedures.

Key Qualifications & Skills

Qualifications & Technical Skills

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Structural Engineering or equivalent.
  • Knowledge and experience in Finite Element Analysis and relevant design standards, motion response, calculations such as stability, structural and strength verification, and structural design and drawings for Classification Society approvals.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Class Societies, Ship Classification Rules, and IMO Rules.
  • Skills in AutoCAD and FEA software such as Ansys etc, are required.

Professional Skills

  • Preferably having more than 5 years of related experience with cargo planning, structural analysis, and project management.
  • Preferably having more than 5 years of related experience as Cargo Superintendent (CSI).
  • Proven ability to interpret technical drawings, produce solutions and operate with an eye for detail.
  • Self-starter and a committed team player with good interpersonal skills and an analytical mind.
  • Well-developed communication and team skills with a dedicated approach to meeting customer requirements.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced working environment.
