The A*STAR's National Metrology Centre (NMC) is the national measurement institute of Singapore, dedicated to advancing measurement science for an innovative and competitive economy. NMC is looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, and innovative research engineer with excellent interpersonal skills to join our multi-disciplinary team.
The successful candidate will be supporting measurement science R&D in designing and developing hydrogen permeability as well as pressure and flow measurement systems for low carbon applications. He/she will also work with a team of metrologists and scientists to support a competent and internationally recognised Singapore national measurement infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive literature reviews to identify existing technologies and methodologies for hydrogen permeability and relevant mechanical testing, and stay abreast of industry trends.
- Design and develop hydrogen permeability testing and relevant mechanical systems for polymer composite materials.
- Ensure the system meets industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure accuracy and traceability of the measurements through calibration and material standards.
- Perform rigorous testing to validate the performance and reliability of the system under real-world conditions.
- Design and implement experiments to collect data on hydrogen permeability of different polymer composite materials.
- Develop software tools or scripts, using MATLAB or similar, to process and analyse test data.
- Create detailed documentation for the developed hydrogen permeability testing system including specifications, operating procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- Maintain accurate records of experiments, test results and system modifications.
- Write technical papers and presentations for internal and external dissemination of project outcomes.
- Communicate project progress, findings, and challenges to stakeholders and team members.
Job Requirement:
- At least a bachelor degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- Prior experience in designing and developing mechanical testing systems, preferably in the field of hydrogen or gas permeability.
- Proficiency with MATLAB or similar programming language for data analysis.
- Experience with pressure and flow testing, as well as familiarity with hydrogen testing standards.
- Familiarity with software and hardware integration would be advantageous
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data and develop practical solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documentation and reporting.
