Regional Technical Director (R&D / QC)

Job Objectives:

  • Responsibility for manufacturing process chemistry, quality, technical troubleshooting, and technical training and support to field / sales operations, as well as the important task of research and development to deliver new product formulations across all product categories.
  • To provide leadership to the Asia Technical team, responsible for all aspects.
  • Accountable for continuous improvement of business goals related to research and development, quality control and quality assurance.
  • Support Regional MD in maintaining ARDEX technical standard in Asia Region.

Key Responsibilities:


Management

  • Participating in corporate strategic planning and its implementation.
  • Co-ordinating and implementing group R&D and quality policies, and participating in the group procurement activities to eliminate potential duplication on R&D activities and ensuring group resources are fully utilized.
  • Supporting and co-ordinating R&D and quality functions for Asia businesses.
  • Recruiting technical staff and developing training and personal development program to motivating and retaining talent staff.
  • Assessing and managing the performance of technical staff ensuring the objectives are achieved, and providing recommendations on adequate remuneration and incentive rewards.
  • Budgeting and managing technical department cost centre ensuring the overheads are in line with budget.
  • Overviewing and planning for future development of R & D, tech service and QC capacity and capability such as capital investment on lab equipment and knowledge management.
  • Planning and allocating resources effectively to optimize utilization of resources.
  • Overviewing the WH&S and environmental issues relating to the operation of R&D and QC lab ensuring the compliance to relevant regulations and standards.
  • Overviewing MSDS Chemwatch program and providing technical advice to OH&S officer.
  • Overviewing the quality assurance system for R&D, technical service and QC functions ensuring the compliance to ISO9001.
  • Managing and protecting company formulations and providing advice on other technology/process related IP.

Research & Development

  • Participating in managing and improving the new product development process.
  • Formulating, recommending and supervising new product development and improvement of existing product programs. Ensuring the application of sound scientific principles in research, laboratory, production trials and field trials. Making sure that the product developed meets the design input and is user and environmental friendly.
  • Investigating and formulating potential collaborative projects with key suppliers, research institutions, or universities as required sustaining ABP’s leading position in innovation.
  • Reviewing and reporting progress on R&D projects and communicating within the company and the group.
  • Overviewing test procedures for R&D projects.
  • Keeping abreast of changing technology and upgrading technical awareness in areas of interest to the company and being aware of competitive activity in the market place.

Marketing Support

  • Participating as required in the marketing plan with respect to technical matters.
  • Evaluating the technical integrity of all published data, packaging, literature, and others such as web site information.

Production Support

  • Providing technical advice on the selection of raw materials and participating in negotiation process with key suppliers as required.
  • Working with operations in evaluating and providing technical advice on the production processes as required and ensuring the process and plant equipment adapted are fit for purpose and the goods produced meet the standard requirements.
  • Resolving production and quality problems and suggesting remedial action when required.
  • Overviewing quality control and process control activities and ensuring the procedures and specifications for raw materials and finish goods are followed.

Job Qualifications


  • Minimum Degree in Industrial Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, preferred PhD level
  • Minimum 10 years work experience in R&D or technical service roles with extensive knowledge of product development, technical service, technical troubleshooting and quality issues.
  • Computer and software skills
  • Familiar with sophisticated corporate management protocols including ERP systems and performance management systems.
  • Strong leadership skills – motivates and supports staff to high level of goal achievement
