Risk Analyst

Role Purpose

The purpose of this role is to identify, monitor and measure Swire Bulk’s risk exposure and report the key metrics regularly and accurately. This includes maintaining related market and risk data, verifying key inputs and outputs from risk reports on market price risk and potentially counterparty default risk.

Role Accountabilities

Market Price Risk Measurement

  • Monitor risk exposure daily to ensure it correctly reflects open freight and bunker exposure of the company.
  • Alert management if any significant risk or breach of trading limits.
  • Perform calculations on key metrics including positions, value-at-risk and stress testing.
  • Provide statistical and risk analysis where necessary e.g. historical trends and new deals.
  • Participate in annual limit setting and risk policy reviews.
  • Actively engage with commercial, finance and other teams.
  • Support and initiate automation and improvements on existing reporting process and accuracy. Lead in related projects and testing.

Reporting and Data Management

  • Prepare data and subsequent analysis for weekly risk meeting reports, including freight, bunkers market risk and counterparty risk.
  • Prepare bespoke reports as and when required in accurate and timely manner.
  • Ensure inputs (e.g. trade details, market data) to the risk reports are captured correctly.
  • Able to read key terms in Charter Party to verify trade entry to the contracts.
  • Manage various market price datasets owned by risk including internal and market data for pricing, benchmarking, value-at-risk and stress testing.

  • Take responsibility for the safety of myself and those around me by displaying safety leadership principles (i.e. Safety I’s & Accountability ladder).
  • Challenging and stopping unsafe acts and behaviours or unsafe conditions.
  • Comply with the Global Safety Standards, Polices and Operating Procedures.

Key Qualifications & Skills

Qualifications

  • Academic degree in Financial Engineering, Economics, Finance, Shipping or other finance- or shipping-based field.
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience in finance, financial services, risk management, shipping or commodities trading.
  • Ability to understand shipping terms and read charter-party preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Strong financial analytical ability, with understanding of the shipping industry.
  • Proficiency with professional tools e.g. Bloomberg, Excel, PowerBI.
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts simply and effectively to commercial team and management.
  • Knowledge of various analytics models e.g. Black-Sholes, Value-at-Risk and data analysis.

Professional Skills

  • Meticulous, with a keen eye for details.
  • Able to engage stakeholders, and communicate in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Positive attitude to always seek improvement on current processes and standards.
  • Team player. Able to work independently and under time pressure.
