Job Summary

§ Deliver pre and post-operative nursing care.

§ Monitor and evaluate patients during surgical procedures.

§ Coordinate and cooperate with multi-disciplinary caregivers to ensure safe and efficient patient care.


Role and Responsibilities

-Patient Care Management

§ Conduct checks and prepare operating rooms promptly for procedures.

§ Respect and safeguard patients’ rights and confidentiality.

§ Assess patients pre-operatively and conduct safety checks before procedures.

§ Ensure availability of supplies and anaesthetic drugs.

§ Aid anaesthetists in anaesthetic procedures.

§ Collaborate with surgeons or anaesthetists to maintain smooth surgery schedules.

§ Administer anesthesia nursing care under surgeon supervision in the absence of anaesthetists.

§ Assist in other nursing tasks like circulating and monitoring post-operative patients.

§ Mentor junior staff to ensure high-quality nursing care.

§ Uphold principles of sterility and asepsis in all procedures.

§ Adhere to established infection control guidelines.

§ Identify and respond to emergency situations involving patient care or team members.

§ Maintain accurate and clear documentation in patient care records and billing of consumables and implants.

§ Safely store Controlled Drugs.

§ Replenish anaesthetist supplies and drugs daily.

§ Collaborate with Nursing Manager/Teams to:

o Assess staff clinical competency

o Enforce peri-operative clinical nursing standards

o Uphold infection control practices

Patient Education

§ Foster effective communication and interpersonal relationships with patients and caregivers.

Professional Development

§ Engage in ongoing nursing education to uphold clinical knowledge and competence.

§ Guide junior staff through mentoring and preceptorship.

§ Provide constructive feedback on staff clinical performance to Supervisors.

§ Organize and conduct in-service education and unit-based orientation for OT nurses.

§ Act as liaison and resource for perioperative nurses.

§ Undertake additional duties as assigned by Supervisors.

Resource Management

§ Demonstrate proper use, care, and maintenance of endoscopes, instruments, equipment, and supplies.

§ Exhibit appropriate and efficient use of sterile supplies and consumables.

§ Assist in inventory management and equipment upkeep.

§ Ensure adequate daily supply of consumables.

§ Support optimal OT room utilization.

Risk and Quality Management

§ Deliver professional care based on evidence-based practices.

§ Report unusual or unsafe practices or incidents.

§ Monitor and ensure adherence to infection control protocols.

§ Implement fall prevention measures.

§ Serve as a role model.

§ Identify opportunities for process/clinical improvement.



Qualifications and Education Requirements

§ Preferably possess Advanced Diploma/Degree in Nursing or equivalent.

§ Registered Nurse with Singapore Nursing Board.

§ Certified in BCLS & AED.

Preferred Skills

§ Minimum 1 or 2 years experience as a Staff Nurse in a clinical setting.
