Teaching Assistant - Hourly Paid

Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract, 2 years

Role Purpose:

To provide ongoing support to staff and customers both inside and outside the classroom and contribute towards the smooth running of the Young Learner Programmes in Singapore.

Main accountabilities but not limited to the following:

Floor Walking

  • Monitor students in the centre before, after and between classes.
  • Ensure children do not enter restricted areas and do not cause disturbances on the premises.
  • Supervise children who need to leave the classroom.
  • Ensure the British Council Child Protection Policy is followed.
  • Direct parents and students to classes and the customer service team for trial classes.
  • Fire Marshall and First Aider in case of emergencies (training to be provided).

Resources

  • Support the team to prepare and maintain materials.
  • Help create displays of student work.
  • Print, cut and laminate materials.

Customer Management

  • Give basic information to parents and students about British Council programmes and refer customers to the Customer Management team.

Teaching Assistant

  • Communicate with and assist classroom teachers.
  • Help children to settle into the class environment and routines .
  • Manage student book borrowing.
  • Guide students when completing written work.
  • Encourage participation.

Professional Development

  • Complete mandatory British Council training.

Other possible responsibilities

  • Work on ad-hoc projects as agreed with the academic management team.
  • Help out on Open House days and with Parent-Teacher Meetings.

Role specific knowledge and experience:

Essential

Working with children:

  • Ability to work in a way that promotes the safety and well-being of children.
  • Effective communication and engagement with colleagues and customers.

Desirable

  • Teacher support at preschool and/or primary school level
  • Good IT skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Requirements:

  • This is an hourly paid role.
  • Good level (IELTS 6) of spoken and written English.
  • Graduates who are looking for part time role is encouraged to apply.
