Job Description

The Centre for Ageing Research and Education (CARE) is an academic research centre based in Duke-NUS Medical School. Drawing on its interdisciplinary expertise and collaborations across medical, social, psychological, economic and environmental perspectives, CARE conducts research on the social and medical determinants of successful ageing, and actively engages with government and industry partners to identify needs and strategies to enhance the experience of ageing in Singapore. CARE is a vibrant work place with individuals from diverse academic and personal backgrounds and range of interests, and we value the energy, passion and thought leadership of promising scholars who desire to achieve health, social inclusion and a high quality of life for older adults in Singapore.

In collaboration with ETH Zurich, the Singapore ETH Centre, and the Singapore Eye Research Institute, Duke-NUS Medical School is a partner in the “Future Health Technologies” research programme supported by the National Research Foundation, Singapore. Within this, CARE is implementing the “Assessment of Fall Risk and Fracture: Targeted Assessment and Recruitment of Geriatrics for Effective fall prevention Treatments” (TARGET) study, that aims to develop novel, scalable solutions for screening and assessing the risk of falls among older adults in Singapore. The study involves a baseline survey and home-based as well as clinic-based assessments among a national cohort of older adults, coupled with short quarterly follow-up interviews that collect data on falls post-baseline. We seek to hire a Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow to join the project.

The successful candidate will perform a variety of research activities including but not limited to the following:

  • Undertake quantitative research using the TARGET study data, and write academic manuscripts for publication in high-impact scientific journals.
  • Contribute to project progress reports and submissions to funding agencies and international collaborators.
  • Develop and conduct workshops in quantitative research methods (at least 1 workshop per year).
  • Contribute to grant applications and participate actively in CARE’s activities including seminars and workshops.
  • Assist with CARE’s other initiatives where required.

Job Requirements

  • PhD in Gerontology, Sociology, Epidemiology, Economics, Public Health, Public Policy, or other related disciplines.
  • Prior research experience in the area of falls among older adults (such as epidemiology of falls, interventions to prevent falls) will be advantageous.
  • Demonstrated skills and expertise in quantitative analysis.
  • Possess excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Motivated, detail-oriented, with the ability to work independently and with others in a multidisciplinary setting.

Job title, salaries and benefits will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and accomplishments.

Interested applicants should fill up the online application form and attach a CV, a cover letter of interest, and names and contact information of 3 academic referees. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. We regret that only shortlisted applicants will be notified.
