What to expect as an analyst with us

As an analyst, you will find yourself immersed in some of the most interesting disputes in complex engineering, construction and infrastructure projects in the world. You will support our teams by providing technical, analytical and reporting assistance to a diverse portfolio of clients, from subcontractors to owners. Your involvement will spread from engagement related to support to negotiations to support to expert evidence during international arbitration proceedings.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include reviewing, analysing and summarising project schedules, progress reports, factual chronologies and/or construction contracts. You can expect to be involved in project delay, disruption and cost-overrun (quantum) analysis, reviews of actual versus forecast progress and interpreting contracts, each of which will require your work to be summarised in presentations and reports addressed to clients, courts and tribunals.

No one engineering and construction project is similar to another; you will be constantly challenged to support the delivery of high-quality services to our clients.

Examples of our projects:

Dispute support: During the construction of an infrastructure project in Panama, the project faced substantial technical and financial issues which placed the contractor at risk of termination. We were appointed to support the contractor to provide an independent view of the causes of the delay to the project and the associated costs. This analysis was used by the contractor to inform its commercial strategy during negotiations with the owner and allowed construction to continue. During this project our analysts were an integral part of our international-based project team, who:

  • Researched and interrogated project data to develop an understanding of the project and its key issues.
  • Supported the detailed analysis of critical project events, managing and drawing insights from large datasets received from the client.
  • Assisted in writing expert reports documenting Accuracy’s analysis on this complex project in a clear and concise manner.

Decision-making: During the development of a new nuclear power plant, Accuracy provided regular independent reviews to assist the client in understanding the development and impact of risks on the cost and time forecasts to project completion. Our team undertook revealing discussions with project personnel to identify and narrow the assessment of the likely cost of each critical risk. Using Monte Carlo mathematical modelling, we developed a tailored dynamic model that was used by the client to obtain regular updates of the most likely costs and delay to completion of the plant. Our analysts were again an integral part of the project team, who:

  • Attended meetings and kept a record of multiple discussions with project personnel enabling the team to identify the critical risks.
  • Assisted in the preparation of inputs for the mathematical simulation.
  • Supported the drafting of our findings which were shared with thousands of investors around the globe and appeared in the news!

Requirements

We are looking for candidates who are logical, analytical, dynamic and self-confident yet humble. You will need to demonstrate curiosity, enthusiasm, willingness to learn, a commercial interest, common sense and attention to detail.

Preferably you will possess the following requirements:

  • Outstanding academic track record in engineering (civil, mechanical or industrial).
  • Strong interest and knowledge in project management and energy/civil engineering.
  • Exceptional numerical and analytical skills, commercial awareness and attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, particularly the ability to summarise.
  • Other language skills are desirable but not essential: in relation with the region (Mandarin, Bahasa Indonesian / Malay, Hindi) or with other Accuracy offices locations (French, Spanish, Italian, German).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office, VBA and project management (Primavera P6, Microsoft Project) skills highly are valued.
