Position Title: Head of Construction

Location: Singapore


Your role

The incumbent will be responsible to lead and manage a team of construction project manager professionals across APAC. The role will ensure consistent, predictable and scalable solutions to world class safety, schedule, quality and commercial project delivery outcomes. They will adopt a partnership-based approach with both internal and external stakeholders to execute the delivery of design and construction projects.


What you’ll do

  • Reporting to the APAC VP of Design Engineering and Construction, the candidate will be based in Singapore and will lead a team of construction project delivery managers across APAC.
  • Partner with the APAC Head of Design to deliver data centre capacity aligned with business unit strategic direction.
  • Lead the overall management of site delivery teams and monitor against agreed outcomes and activities.
  • Implement off site fabrication and manufacturing solutions to the design and delivery phase of capacity delivery where appropriate
  • Implement and scale repeatable and predictable processes to ensure accurate project tracking, reporting and risk management mechanisms
  • Lead the direction and monitor the performance of GC’s, OEM’s and external consultants that are engaged across the region.
  • Act as the focal point of management for regional safety, schedule and cost performance during the delivery phase.
  • Procure and execute delivery strategies that are consistent with company practices, ensuring suitability for local country implementation
  • Implement and lead a world class safety culture with internal stakeholders, general contractors, equipment vendors and the wider supply chain
  • Excellent project management skills, the ability to manage multiple projects, project manage team members and vendors seamlessly.
  • Ability to work with many groups and disciplines within the organization including executive management, operations, sales and finance.
  • Program/Project Management of design and construction vendors from initiation to closeout for new facility construction, upgrades of existing facilities, and other related construction work.
  • Prepare budgets and forecasts related to anticipated design and construction expenditures.
  • Development of project program and scope documents that are aligned with business objectives and value-engineering philosophies
  • Work with Sales for customer enquiries and site visits for sales opportunities.
  • Be a cross functional partner with internal teams to enable seamless end to end delivery
  • Preparation of requests for proposals.
  • Evaluation of proposals and recommendations to management regarding vendor selection.
  • Expected to closely track progress (scope, budget & schedule) of all design and construction-related projects from inception to completion. Ability to communicate progress to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monthly progress reporting.
  • Initiating and maintaining design & construction standards that provide for cost effective facilities.
  • Initiating and maintaining a historical construction cost database that captures the scope, schedule and cost of all completed projects.
  • A good understanding of advanced electrical, mechanical, security / monitoring, and fire detection/suppression systems.
  • An understanding of standard practices in the design and construction industry.
  • A good familiarity with basic building code requirements.

What you’ll need

  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from a four-year college or university and a minimum of six years of related project management experience of technically complex projects required.
  • Min 15 years construction delivery experience – either trade, general contractor, consultant, design engineer etc.
  • Be a construction industry safety thought leader
  • Professional License (Architect or Engineer) desired.
  • Ability to comprehend, analyse, and interpret complex business documents, design drawings, construction drawings, construction specifications, design and construction contracts, project schedules and detailed budgets / estimate summaries.
  • Ability to project manage effectively.
  • Ability to make effective presentations and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the public.
  • Requires a high level of commitment to customer service, whether co-workers or clients.
  • Ability to analyse and solve problems involving several options with limited information. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form and to work independently. Requires advanced analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to work well under pressure with a proactive approach to unusual occurrences.
  • Requires good organizational skills, attention to detail and an openness to new ideas and procedures.
  • Experienced in the use of MS Office software and AutoCAD.
  • Decisions made with understanding of procedures, company policies and business practices to achieve general results. Responsible for setting and meeting work unit and/or project deadlines.
  • Requires general knowledge of design and construction terms and principles and contracts.
  • Requires the ability to review and analyse budgets and estimates.
