POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the SVP Data Centres, the Head of the Technical Advisory Group in the Global Data Centre Team oversees a team of subject matter experts in HV, Electrical, Mechanical, and Controls & Monitoring systems, who provide technical and procedural oversight and guidance to the regional operations teams.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Technical Advisory: Serve as the primary technical advisor within the Data Centre team, offering expert guidance on complex technical matters related to electrical, mechanical, and monitoring systems.
- Build and lead the Technical Advisory Group: Recruit, develop, and manage a team of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) specializing in Electrical, Mechanical, and Controls & Monitoring systems (BMS). Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the team.
- Design reviews: Lead and oversee the evaluation of new site designs to ensure alignment with technical standards, scalability, efficiency goals, and Operations.
- Testing and Commissioning support: Provide technical guidance and support during the testing and commissioning phases of Data Centre projects to ensure adherence to specifications and quality standards.
- Problem management: Spearhead problem management initiatives to identify and resolve technical issues promptly, minimizing downtime and maximizing operational efficiency.
- Vendor Management: Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to evaluate new technologies, negotiate contracts, and ensure the timely delivery of high-quality equipment and services.
- Technical Intelligence: Stay informed on current and emerging Data Centre technologies and trends. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize Data Centre performance, reliability, and energy efficiency through the adoption of best practices and innovative solutions.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including the Design Team, Safety, Commercial Operations and Compliance to ensure seamless integration of technical solutions and alignment with business objectives.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Extensive experience (8+ years) in Data Centre (or another mission-critical environment) Operations, Design, and Construction, with a focus on Electrical, Mechanical, and Control systems.
- Proven track record of successfully leading technical teams and driving complex projects to completion.
- In-depth knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations governing Data Centre design and operation (e.g., TIA-942, ASHRAE, NFPA).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess technical challenges and develop effective solutions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Project management certification (PMP, PRINCE2) is a plus.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to support global projects and initiatives.
