RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct comprehensive and impartial investigations into employee-related HR allegations, related to misconduct, policy violations, harassment, discrimination, and various workplace issues.
  • Independently act as the HR representative for the disciplinary Inquiry Committee hearings, ensuring a fair hearing where natural justice is addressed, due process delivered as well as detailed and accurate documentation of the process.
  • Identify and monitor trends regarding HR-related investigations, employee disciplinary matters, and employee relations matters. Develop, in consultation with HRBPs, plans to mitigate risks to the business.
  • Research, plan and contribute to the development of policies and processes for, but not limited to:
    • Employee investigation matters
    • Employee relations / compliance matters
    • Employee discipline and grievance matters
    • HR-related crisis management matters
  • Provide consultation to, and guide HRBPs (HR Business Partners) and key SOCI (Schools, Offices, Centres and Institutes) stakeholders on addressing and resolving employee disciplinary issues, involuntary employment cessation issues, employee grievance issues, etc.
  • Collaborate and work closely with Office of the Provost and Office of Legal and General Affairs to ensure that all HR policies and processes are aligned with local laws and regulations, and recommend appropriate resolutions where needed.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees and managers on the importance of workplace conduct, workplace fairness matters, reporting mechanisms, etc.
  • Support union-related matters to uphold good industrial relations. This includes but is not limited to Collective Agreement negotiations and partnering the Union on IR events.
  • Manage annual COC (Code of Conduct) and COI (Conflict of Interest) exercises as well as liaise with HR Administration team on the delivery of these exercises.
  • Collaborate with Office of Safety and Security to develop and maintain a HR crisis management plan that addresses a range of potential crises that may affect employees.
  • Develop communication strategies and draft communications package for internal and external stakeholders during crises.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Degree, preferably in the area of Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Law, Psychology, Business Administration, or a related field, with at least 10 years of HR-related work experience, of which 5 years should be in a similar role focusing on employee investigations, labour relations and employee relations.
  • Familiar with general HR policies & practices, local Employment Act, Industrial Relations Act, Workplace Fairness Legislation, Retirement & Re-employment Act, etc.
  • Good track record of engaging and managing industry labour union representatives / officials.
  • Demonstrate high level of empathy and advanced listening skills when communicating, influencing, problem-solving people as well as union-related matters.
  • Ground decisions in facts, leverage on data to generate new insights and opportunities, clearly defines and measures business outcomes to identify course corrections and measure success.
  • Committed to, and possess relevant skills in collaboration, problem solving, negotiation, dispute resolution, and solution finding.
  • Possess high level of discretion and ability to handle confidential and classified information.
