Senior Scientist I (Protein Sequence Analysis), BII

A position is available at the Protein Sequence Analysis Group at the Bioinformatics Institute, A*STAR. Our group collaborates closely with multiple local and international partners. We are involved in the development of analysis and prediction tools in the area of infectious diseases, allergy, enzyme engineering and precision medicine. Our group is also part of the Pharma Innovation Programme Singapore (PIPS), which is an industry-led platform, bringing together research capabilities and domain expertise from the pharmaceutical industry, to enhance manufacturing productivity and efficiency. By working closely with the industry and laboratory experimentalists, our team provide data analytics, by utilizing biological insights and applying them using machine-learning methods for enzyme engineering.

Job Description:

  • Analyze biological data such as protein sequences, protein 3D structural data and laboratory experimental data to provide biological insights.
  • Use of machine-learning methods to make predictions.
  • Use of deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, Keras and TensorFlow to make predictions.
  • Contribute to the development of analysis pipelines.
  • Work with our industrial partners on existing enzyme engineering projects.

Job Requirements:

  • PhD degree in Biology, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering or a related field.
  • Programming skills in C,C++,Perl,Python,R,Ruby,Rust.
  • Familiarity with Unix/Linux environment.
  • Previous research experience in bioinformatics, computational biology, or related fields is desirable.
  • Keen interest in applying computational methods to solve biological problems.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
  • Competent project management and organizational skills to lead the project.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to present findings to technical audiences.
  • Previous research experience in bioinformatics, computational
