The successful candidate is part of Coherent Corp, Global Legal Team and will report directly to the Coherent General Counsel for Global Compliance.


This position serves as a key leader in the Company’s operations in China and the APAC region. And has responsibility for all substantive areas in China and APAC region from a compliance perspective, M&A, integration/transformation, supply chain and sales, with focus on the anti-corruption, FCPA, data and data privacy, trade compliance and ethics related matters in China and APAC region.


The candidate will be based in Singapore with ability to travel 25% per year. The work mode is Hybrid and should be flexible to work outside of Singapore office working hours.


Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Act as lead in-house attorney on all compliance activities in China and APAC.
  2. Participate in strategic business development, organic and inorganic growth initiatives and routine operations in the region.
  3. Support the business restructuring activities in this region, including the business transfer from compliance perspective.
  4. Report to the Global Compliance.
  5. Identify compliance risk areas that are associated with the Company’s business activities in China and APAC.
  6. Lead compliance programs in this region.
  7. Work with Legal/Compliance leadership and corporate Compliance Team to continuously improve the Company’s compliance practice in China and APAC.
  8. Provide compliance training in the region
  9. Lead compliance auditing across the region
  10. Develop relationships, processes and activities that support and continuously improve the delivery of compliance support to the Company.

Education & Experience

  1. An undergraduate degree in law and an LLM (or equivalent) is a required.
  2. Minimum of 15 years’ experience in a combination of law firm, government, and in-house positions. MNC experience is a must.
  3. Experience of China General Counsel at major multinational companies.
  4. Minimum 3+ years’ experience of APAC Compliance General Counsel at a $5B+ major multinational company in the area of high-tech area.
  5. Minimum 10 years’ experience in law firms, among which at least five years in first-tier international law firms with focus on M&A, Infrastructure, Compliance
  6. Minimum 3 years’ experience of focusing on compliance matters, including privacy, trade compliance, ethics, and anti-corruption related matters.
  7. Rich experience in dealing with data privacy matters across Asia, including experience in dealing with communications with data privacy regulators, such as Cyberspace Administration of China
  8. Shall be well versed in Chinese, US, Malaysian, Vietnamese, Thai, etc. import and export laws and experience in dealing with Customs in these countries.
  9. Experience working cooperatively with other divisions of a global business to achieve sustainable business results.
  10. Substantive experience in the major practice areas required to support the Company’s business in China and APAC.
  11. Familiarity with regulatory and compliance issues affecting the Company’s business activities in China and APAC.
  12. Substantive experience in making presentations to senior management teams, including Board of Directors
