The client of ours is looking for a Site Director to lead the planning, development, and execution of data center projects from a technical standpoint. The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in project planning and development, site acquisition, infrastructure design, and construction management within the data center industry. This role calls for a strategic thinker with outstanding leadership abilities and a proven history of delivering large-scale infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities:
Project Planning and Development:
- Lead the technical aspects of the initial site development process for new datancenter projects, including site selection and acquisition.
- Engage in the design, permitting, and construction phases of new projects.
- Develop and oversee project budgets, timelines, and resource allocation to ensure timely and cost-efficient project delivery.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, such as architects, engineers, contractors, consultants, and regulatory bodies, to meet project requirements and standards.
Site Acquisition and Evaluation:
- Identify and assess potential sites for data center development, taking into account factors like location, infrastructure, environmental impact, and regulatory compliance.
- Conduct due diligence and feasibility studies to evaluate site suitability and potential risks.
- Assess timelines for land readiness and the overall process from acquisition to readiness for service (RFS), either independently or in collaboration with local consultants.
- Negotiate land acquisitions, leases, and other real estate transactions to securenthe best sites for data center development.
Infrastructure Design:
- Participate in the infrastructure design process, ensuring designs align with the technical requirements, standards, and future scalability needs of the data center based on initial evaluations.
- Work closely with design and engineering teams to create detailed plans for electrical, mechanical, and structural systems.
- Ensure infrastructure designs incorporate the latest technologies and best practices to improve efficiency and sustainability.
Construction Management:
- Oversee the construction phase of data center projects, ensuring compliance with project plans, specifications, and quality standards.
- Address and resolve any issues or challenges that arise during construction, ensuring minimal impact on project timelines and budgets.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including consultants, local authorities, community leaders, and utility providers.
- Represent the company in public meetings, hearings, and other forums to advocate for project approvals and garner community support.
- Provide regular updates and reports on project progress to senior management.
Sustainability and Innovation:
- Advocate for sustainable development practices and incorporate green building standards into data center projects.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to foster innovation and continuous improvement in site development processes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Real Estate, or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred.
- At least 10 years of experience in site development, construction management, or project management within the data center or a related industry.
- Demonstrated success in delivering large-scale infrastructure projects on time and within budget.
- Strong understanding of site selection, acquisition, permitting, and construction processes across the APAC region.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and perform effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in project management software and tools.
- Familiarity with sustainability practices and standards is advantageous.
